Bring back desertrunner?

Background:

desertrunner is a personal friend I've known since 2010. He is not from the poker community, though he knows about it, and listens to PFA Radio most weeks. He has been a loyal friend to me over the years, and has been there when I've needed him.

He created an account on Poker Fraud Alert awhile back, but only posted occasionally. His first major thread was about flashlights, of all things, and it was popular and well-received. This was in late 2020.

Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. desertrunner clashed with a lot of members here, especially with ones on the political left. The problem was that desertrunner never quite "fit in" here, and tended to be a magnet to arguing and controversy. His presence also irritated some members here, who stated that he created too many threads, over-commented in existing threads, and was generally obnoxious. Some threatened to leave the forum entirely unless I banned him or got him under control.

Despite the fact that he was my personal friend, I did throw some restrictions and suspensions on his account. When he didn't keep his promises regarding his antics here, I had to ban him in late April 2021.

Some expected that would be the end of our friendship, but it was not. Neither of us had hard feelings, and we've talked frequently in the nearly 2 years since. He still listens to radio, and even calls in sometimes. He also occasionally posts on my other forum, Vegas Casino Talk, and is not ever in controversy over there (though that forum has a different type of crowd than this one).

He has expressed interest in returning, so I am figuring out how the community feels about it.



Desertrunner Pros

- I know him personally, and can assure everyone that he is a good guy who is harmless.

- He never threatened anyone here, nor did he ever attempt to find or dox anyone, even when things got very heated. and even when people were attempting to find and dox him.

- Knows a lot about flashlights, guns, and desert-related stuff.

- Will bring some more activity to the forum.

- Most of his biggest detractors are no longer on PFA, or at least no longer actively posting



Desertrunner Cons

- Never really fit in with the "culture" of PFA

- Annoyed a large portion of the userbase

- Refused to heed rules set down in 2021 regarding things on PFA which annoyed everyone

- His presence may bring drama all over again, after we've had a fairly long stretch of calm on this forum



I see there being three choices:

- Bring him back unrestricted, at least for now

- Bring him back, but restrict his posting and thread creation so he can't dominate the forum

- Do not bring him back

Sobchak and a few of his fanboys were the ones that primarily chased him off. With Wittle Waltie gone and enough time passed, I think he should be welcomed back. He can be very interesting at times. He's a lot more valuable to this forum then Marley and Brodie.

His presence also irritated some members here, who stated that he created too many threads, over-commented in existing threads, and was generally obnoxious.

Desert runner is a fucking retard. That is to say, he fits in just fine.

I must've just missed this person as I joined in 4/2021. He can't be any worse than some others here you haven't banned and so what if he is? I have no issue with anyone on the site and even when I do its really nothing to speak of. Bring him back without restrictions gets my vote.

He's mentally unstable, old and definitely on the spectrum so will fit right back in.

I say bring him back, as long as he keeps his abject pedophile behavior in check.

For the record, Druff, his real life friend, had to ban him after giving him countless chances to behave.

Desertrunner is just too autistic and unhinged and the result will be the same, which Druff knows. He's just looking to get cucked again.

I mean it was kind of crazy that Druff let the dude shit all over him and constantly asked him as a friend to stop.

If he wants to add that back in his life, guess it's his call. I expect nothing different than last time though. I always appreciate though when Druff marks his time stamps on radio - easy skip.

Humor aside, I don’t think this place was good for him. He has found a place on the other site. Does he miss anyone here? That’s not usually the way folks on the spectrum operate.

It is funny that 75% of the respondents want him unbanned (with 58% voting to have no restrictions), yet I am getting snide remarks in this thread, regarding considering this.

The main reason desertrunner was noticed was because he was posting an insane number of times, including creating numerous threads. Some people assumed at the time (and still think) that this was an intentional act of ruining the forum. It wasn't. He really thought that he was bringing good material here. The truth was that some of the stuff he was posting (such as links to news articles) was interesting, but it was just too much. For example, you guys have seen that I will post links to news stories and then give my own take, but I am careful to select what I think the forum will enjoy, and I don't overdo it. desertrunner didn't have that filter, partially due to lack of familiarity here.

Then he was being repeatedly insulted by both legitimate critics and trolls, and the whole thing went off the rails.

I won't defend all of his behavior. I was very annoyed when he wouldn't listen to my requests to stop overposting, and to stop certain other behavior which was just worsening the situation. That's why I banned him, despite our personal friendship. Everyone needs to respect the forum and its operation, even friends. However, it still wasn't malicious -- it was just a lack of self-control at the time.

I felt that it might be time to give him another try because:

1) Most of the people he fought with most vigorously are gone anyway

2) There are a few right-wing troll types active on the forum, and nobody is particularly troubled by them (and I'm not talking about dwai, who has become beloved by most people here)

3) He has expressed a desire to come back

4) He has told me that he will take care this time to not cause problems

5) On Vegascasinotalk, he did not engage in the type of behavior he did on PFA, and therefore I haven't received a single complaint about him

6) This won't turn into another Sixtoedpete because I know him personally, and he's not like that at all. After 12 years, I think I can say I know the guy pretty well.


Right now I'm strongly leaning YES.

Then why not just let him back tonight, Druff? Everyone has a choice to respond to him or not or to even read what he says. Sometimes I just look at the betting thread and bounce and some others I read everything. Its entertainment. Sonatine said he's very, very, very funny. If he's funny and not a malicious person then what's the problem?

I like the idea of one dead friend bringing another back to life.

I vote that he comes back but advise him to use third grade language so narleymarley, gayjammies, sloppy ho and simpletine can understand it.

The big question Druff is will you abide by the results of this poll? and what have you done to stop bot voting?
