On Sunday, GOP pollster Frank Luntz played video of a recent focus group of Trump supporters who have now decided they can’t support their one-time candidate.
Now a new report from the Toronto Star reveals that they’re far from alone.
In interviews with several Trump supporters, reporter Daniel Dale found that Trump’s erratic behavior and inability to control his impulses has turned off many voters who were once intrigued by his candidacy.
“I live in the country and I think I want to make one of those bunkers like they used to when we were afraid of nuclear war,” said 45-year-old Louisiana resident Kimberly McBride, who recently switched her vote to Clinton. “
Because every time he opens his mouth, I feel like he’s putting us at risk… I think he’s going to get us all killed.”
David Wright, a 44-year-old “Reagan Republican” from Tennessee, tells Dale that he was horrified with Trump’s recent remarks about “Second Amendment people” stopping Hillary Clinton from appointing judges to the Supreme Court.
“That comment: that was it,” he said. “There’s some things you just don’t say. There’s just a certain amount of etiquette, certain decorum that has to come into this thing.”
19-year-old Nick Lucasti of Indiana, meanwhile, initially supported Trump because he figured he wasn’t actually serious about all the crazy things he was saying.
“After months of watching him, though, I now know for sure that this guy honestly wants to build a concrete wall hundreds of miles long,” he said. “Just ridiculous.”
