My Phillies might make a play for Harper but I would much rather see them save that money for Trout in 2019 . Trout is a Jersey boy who is always at Philly Eagles games . Fairly sure he would love to play in Philly since he won't ever sniff a championship in LA.

interesting tale on that one...so I used to work in the armpit of America (aka atlantic city)...driving home most nights I wouldn't run into traffic driving back into philly because most people are leaving the city and going to the burbs...but this one summer night traffic was ridiculous on the Whitman, something I had never seen before...and this was like a random Tuesday/Wednesday...couldn't figure out what the hell was up until I got home and realized that trout was in town playing the phillies...I would say most of southern jersey was in attendance that night...Quote:

I lived in Philadelphia in 2008. Financially and personally it was the worst period of my life. The Phillies winning the World Series was an incredible moment. I vividly remember being downtown that night. It was the most electric atmosphere I have ever felt, I basically turned the corner with that event.Quote:

Trout’s only playoff experience was 2014 and he was .083 for 12 appearances. He might be another Kershaw under the bright lights. We don’t know really but it has to be a concern.

Dodgers went after Dozier in 2016, but decided they didn't want to part with the prospects the Twins wanted. Dozier is having a down year, hitting .221 with 16 HR. Still an upgrade at 2B, though.

Cubs line up is very good our starting pitching has been beyond atrocious but despite that they still have the best record in the nl.

Wrigley is not a hitters park . Dodger stadium is more of a hitters park. Wrigley is only a hitters park when the wind is blowing out .. which it rarely does . Cubs have had a better offense on the road. Good try though :)
McGwire and Canseco's best combined year was 80 homeruns. This Ramirez/Lindor tandem seem likely to topple that, projecting at 90 atm. There is no real historical context for two guys under 6' and 5'10 putting up anything like this. I'd be skeptical if they didn't look exactly the same. I'd still be skeptical looking the same if not for playing for my beloved team. I just continue to giggle every time I see all 5'9 and 170lbs of Ramirez above Judge/Stanton.

granted they're never gonna have the money that Houston had (but somehow they're gonna dump that new stadium onto the public, LOL), but they have to do pretty decent with revenue sharing...not enough to lock and load a lotta talent that isn't home grown, but I guess you can't consider it a "rebuilding" process if you can't go out and get a verlander/cole/etc...Quote:

im higher on archer than you...here's his fangraphs advanced stats...I think he's a #2 starter...maybe that FIP/SIERA says more #3, don't have that shit categorized but he does have around 30% K% upside (and I get that strikeouts are up all across the league)...this year has definitely not been pretty, he's sitting at around 25% which definitely won't cut it for a guy who pitches like he does...interesting he's down a full MPH on his fastball to just under 95, when he was fairly consistently just under 96 for the last 6 years...will be interesting to see what happens in Pittsburgh...tampa is a good park for pitching if memory serves and I think Pittsburgh is as well (I think it suppresses righty power pretty well)...

Machado has looked really bad since he came back to Dodger Stradium for his first series.
Lots of really weak tappers and comebackers. Has choked in the clutch a number of times.
I'm wondering if he's feeling pressure in LA which he didn't feel on a bad Baltimore team, especially given how much he's already been promoted to the sizable Latino Dodgers fan base.
Very small sample size so far, and he's faced some good teams/pitchers in these recent home games, but he's looked really unimpressive during this homestand.
In other Dodgers news, Andre Ethier retired. He played only for the Dodgers, from 2006-2017. Wasn't drafted by them, but his entire Major League career was with them. He signed a large, ill-conceived contract which just expired in 2017. He swore he wasn't retiring, and was going to be 36 in 2018, but no team was interested in him. He barely played in 2016 and 2017 due to injury.

The initial acquiring of Ethier, then an Oakland minor leaguer, was a good move for Ned Colletti. He only gave up clubhouse nightmare Milton Bradley and some no-name player who ended up going nowhere. Ethier had a number of good years with the Dodgers, but Colletti gave him a horrible 5-year, $85m extension from 2013-2017, which clearly was an overpayment and far too long of a contract for a player of Etheir's stature. Indeed, Ethier spent about half of those 5 years being injured or ineffective.
Ethier's effort was also questioned at times. A good looking guy who was a favorite of female Dodgers fans, he sometimes seemed more into his pretty boy image than playing baseball. He was once photographed getting off the plane to St. Louis for the 2013 NLCS wearing some kind of bright-colored, weird-looking outfit, which indicated to some fans that he had become overly fashion-conscious and found his looks to be more important than concentrating on the upcoming NLCS series. Indeed, Ethier performed poorly during that series, going 3-for-20 with no extra base hits.
While not an elite talent, I think Ethier got lazy and too Hollywood after signing that big contract, and seemed to focus more on his looks and celebrity than putting in the grind that is Major League Baseball. While he didn't have a baseball ego (he didn't bitch about being relegated to the bench when not playing well), that was also indicative that baseball was no longer the primary thing on his mind during those last five years.
