Especially since she admitted to trying to commit suicide in the past. Aren't they supposed to monitor those people nonstop, 24/7?

Preliminary drugs tests also found marijuana in her system.
Diepraam said that unless she took the drug inside her cell, Bland would have had to have ingested a huge amount of the substance, either by swallowing or smoking it, for it to still be in her system three days later.
Come on...you're smarter than that. That logic is awful.
She died because she hung herself
She was arrested because she didnt follow police orders
Its also quite possible that she had weed in her car and ate it so the cop wouldnt find it.
She had cut marks all over her wrist.
In terms of do they have to monitor (suicide watch) because she admitted to trying to kill herself, she was asked on the form if she had any suicidal thoughts that day and said No.
Another case of people wanting to push responsibility onto others instead of accepting the fact that the woman screwed up, did something wrong, didnt follow directions, mouthed off to police, got arrested when she was about to only get a warning, ate some illegal drugs she had, and then hung herself.
Of course this will be a long drawn out mess so everyone can run 50 headlines about how she was a great lil girl, never hurt nobody, was gettin her life back in order and the cops were big meanies and should have kissed her ass and treated her like an angel, as she was calling them motherfuckers/pussies and resisting arrest.
I can see it now...police start to not give any fucks because they would be under such ridiculous scrutiny that they cant handle the pressure, or the good ones quit, and more and more videos come out where the cop is nervous as hell because he has had to deal with assholes arguing with him, so he pulls a gun and shoots when the kid removes his hat, because the kid didnt listen to his commands to get his hands in the air and keep them there, for the 5th time, and the cop thought that the kid had a gun under his hat and was going to try to shoot him, and the city gets sued for 4.7mil.
here is the thing....you say "escalated"
he was very courteous to her. He was also asking her questions to get her to talk, likely because he suspected something was up with her behavior.
she resisted and was an ass.
You make it sound as if he is supposed to just sit there and smile and say "Thank you for calling me a motherfucker. Would you mind please leaving the vehicle when it suits you? He is a human being, and doesnt want to deal with a situation where some crazy bitch has a gun in her car because she could shoot him so he doesnt find the 5 kilos of coke in the trunk. He asked her multiple times to follow his commands and she didnt and started arguing.
gloves come off. It has nothing to do with him "escalating" anything. If you want to say its escalating because he got angrier, well, thats on you. If its escalating because he was now threatening to light her up with a taser, well, he doesnt want to die. He is there to give her a warning, not get killed by some crazy bitch. Try knowing that multiple times a day, while you are at work, at any point, some seemingly innocent situation could go from Hello ma'am to BOOM HEAD SHOT. Do you think you would be mr. happy all day? Fuck no.
She fucked up.
If you want a fucking robot of a cop who doesnt change his demeanor and doesnt "escalate" things, I can see them just having police hand over a sheet of paper or play a recorded message to the person, and if they dont follow everything exactly and immediately, they just pull a gun or taser. No written warnings...they just walk up to your car and toss a ticket in your window, turn and walk away.
Its fucking ridiculous what people expect from police who are trying to make the world a better place.
Again, she did something illegal, she ingested pot, she mouthed off to the cops and resisted arrest. She had prior suicide attempt and cut her wrists 30 or so times.
Bad police officer...bad bad police officer!!

What?
What does that have to do with anything?
If my kid fucks up, he gets whats coming to him. I already have some shit to deal with actually with my own kid, and Im teaching him to understand the consequences of his decisions.
Get back to the topic. Can you actually tell me that the police were guilty of doing ANYTHING illegal, based on all of the FACTS that have come out?
If you cant answer that with the word NO, then you are the type of person who hates the police, and would likely respond with:
Why did they not keep the person on camera after the stop? what were they hiding? Why did they alter the video? You can see it glitches! They're hiding something. They edited the tape. Why didnt they have a camera on her the whole time? Why did he get angry and aggressive to her? Why did he pull her over for something as dumb as not putting her signal on? Why didnt they have someone sit there and watch her the whole time in the cell?
All of these questions are absurd and are just ways for people to bitch and argue and they dont have valid points or arguments so they will grasp at anything to make the police look evil. Thats where the gray areas come in. If you make it mandatory that the person is on camera 100% of the time, every attorney is going to say, "your honor...for 3 seconds, my client was out of the range of the camera when they were cuffing him, and THAT is when they planted a bloody knife and drugs on him. I want this case dismissed due to those 3 seconds"
They did everything they were required to do.
What I saw was an abuse of power and attempted cover up of that when he described what happened in the car. Illegal and guy with a badge being a dick just to show someone who's boss is the root of the problem. She wasn't a threat and he escalated a situation he could have walked away from. I at least hope he never works again in that profession. Get cops to get rid of the holier than thou attitude and get back to being community servants. Pretty simple.
I only see cops as extortionists with guns. It used to be different. Not now, they just want your money to fund their paychecks. Bloated waste of taxpayers dollars.
on that note, my efforts here are done. I hope someday you find out what its like to walk in their shoes.
I'm seriously in awe of anyone defending this woman. Or placing blame on anyone but her. How stupid do you have to be to fight with a cop
I agree. Fighting with a cop for any reason, or even mouthing off to them is a lost cause. You won't win. She had attempted suicide before, and admitted that. They obviously didn't pay attention to that. She said she wasn't suicidal at the time they locked her up...but can you really trust someone who has already tried it before? Maybe I'm wrong here, but I thought they had to isolate people like that and monitor them nonstop. Garrett? Is that true?
Nobody disagrees that this is the pragmatic choice to make. Of course you should do what they say and keep your mouth shut. That doesn't mean that it's necessarily right.
It's no different than dealing with an armed robber. You comply out of fear and self-preservation, not for any moral reasons. In an ideal world, you should be able to call out an officer for abusing his authority or violating your constitutional rights, but the reality is that they have enormous power and zero oversight, so you just have to take it.
The difference is, if you stand up to the thief, nobody will say that you deserved to die. They might say it was stupid, that you should have just handed over your money, but it wasn't morally wrong. Just logically wrong.
NO!!!
You cant say that. You have no knowledge of what they did about that situation. They have a form that she filled out where she indicated she had tried to kill herself before. However, it also asks if she felt like killing herself right now, and she said no. anything that happens after that we don't know about, but you can't say they obviously obviously obviously didn't care. You have no info.

Do you actually expect an officer to sit there in her cell and hold her hand or monitor her 24/7 because she got put in there for resisting arrest, or whatever they charged her with? For every fuck nut that gets locked up, are they supposed to have someone in the cell to coddle them and offer support? Be realistic. They lock up people MUCH MUCH MORE serious than her with way more "issues"than she had with no supervision. She is in a cell. They dont have to keep an eye on her 24/7.
I cant even fathom how much our taxes would go up if we required the police to do some of the things people are expecting the police to do in this case. Whack jobs and attorneys cause tons of issues in these matters.
Edit: In the end, this officer will likely get in trouble and possibly lose his job, due to public outcry. My best guess. It will probably come down to people stating something like he was abusive (way less than her, but you could argue that he was agitated with her and lost his composure, which will likely lead to the breeding of more robotic officers who have no personality, monotone speaking voice, zero compassion, and people will then claim those cops are assholes because they spoke like a robot). There will be no accountability from her family. They will likely say she was a good girl, promoted peace through her #blacklivesmatter campaign on Facebook/Twitter, didnt deserve to be "murdered" (shakes head).
He has to be suspended during the investigation, so people automatically assumes that they are covering something up (shakes head again) and they will say that since he has only been a cop for 1 yr, he doesnt know what he is doing and every cop in the country needs further training on how to deal with asshol, er, "people".
This will be a clusterfuck, just like the kid who died after the Widespread Panic show last week. Police Hogtied him. He died later in the hospital. He was put on the gurney hogtied face down (looked like he had his head tilted to the side in the video but people will ignore that and just run with face down #icantbreathe. )
Ignore the fact that he allegedly took 4-5 hits of acid preshow, wife drove off with him before the show started because he was fucked up, he ran out of the car in a shopping mall, police showed up and he ran away from them, struck some of them (as he had done at a Panic show in 2008 according to his arrest report back then, when he hit and spit at them), tried to avoid letting them grab him by jumping into a K-9 car where he got bit by a dog, put into leg irons, then had to be hogtied so he wouldnt hurt himself or others, put into the ambulance, taken to the hospital where he attacked personnel there and had to be moved, and died of an alleged heart issue an hour later.
bad police....BAD! <shakes head>
I have a very strong feeling that legally, the officer was well within his right (out of safety) to do everything he did. Could he have used different words besides light you up? Sure. But his safety takes precedence and she was non compliant. His requests to her were perfectly acceptable. He does not Have to kiss her ass. It is expected that people follow police orders. I could tell that this woman was going to be some argumentativive, militant, activist within a minute of her talking.
This country is going to go up for grabs from assholes try to play the "fuck you pig, I know my rights" routine. Not every cop is perfect and neither are any of us. Shit like this will eventually trickle down and affect me.

Bill Cosby Talks to Kids About Drugs
When did police officers become such pussies? Everything frightens them. The slightest thing becomes a safety concern. Just reaching for your driver's license is enough to get shot by these jumpy cowards.
I'll never forget watching the cops sit on their asses outside of Columbine High while children were murdered. Standard procedure they said. Why does their safety take precedence?
The Supreme Court says that police have no obligation to protect us. What exactly is the point of them then? Besides being armed tax collectors, I mean.
