This... was just outright bad.

It's funny seeing all the excuses being made by certain people who don't want to just plainly admit that it was a great player making a bad play at a bad moment.

In general, it's not good to run a bluff on a board which was likely to hit your opponent enough to hero call. This board was very likely to have hit Serock, and she punted off anyway. Additionally, she had few outs if he were strong. It's not like she did this with hearts and knew there were most likely a number of clean outs. No need for this at all. Why not just aggressively attack the blinds of the shorter stacks, who are just waiting for each other to bust?

(By the way, I combined all the WSOP threads into this one, including the one about me.)

Oh, one more thing.

This year I didn't play with any big names at the WSOP Main. The 3 biggest names I played with at the entire event were Natasha Mercier, William "The Poker Monkey" Souther, and Jerod Smith.

Last year, despite getting only slightly further (35 spots) than this year, I played with a TON of big names, including Day 1.

And guess what? Most of them made surprisingly bad plays which were borderline shocking. These were people I pictured being dialed in and rarely making a stupid move, yet I saw plays so bad that I was left scratching my head over and over. And these were not plays I just didn't understand. They were clearly bad, and others at the table spoke up as well after they were gone.

My point? I learned to feel less bad when I make stupid plays myself. Sometimes I beat myself up that I'm a complete retard who makes dumb mistakes that the great players never would. But I see that, over the course of a long event and a long WSOP, everyone does dumb shit. Even Kristen Bicknell.

woke up to check stacks and see Kristen out at 13th. The final hand brutal and horribly played. Would have loved to see her final table but that was just bad. Can’t even understand what she is repping there against a utg open.

What is the sponsorship situation these days?

Foxen probably cost herself some decent opportunities

But maybe not….poker ain’t what it used to be

ICM alone would suggest it’s a mistake. But being the only woman to final table in 30 years is worth a lot on sponsorships. That being said she was already well connected and married to a well known pro as well. Still doesn’t make up for it

She had the most to gain of anyone remaining, by a wide margin. Both by final tabling and winning it.

Final tabling the Main isn't going to get any of these dudes a sponsorship these days. Winning it will, but it won't be very lucrative unless you have a personality to go with it, or an existing big name.

Kristen Foxen winning it would have been huge. She would have instantly rocketed up to being a big name known outside of poker, rather than just one known within poker. Even final tabling would have earned her a lot of new notoriety.

I have no idea why she punted like this. Someone theorized that she had just lost two pots and got tilted. That's probably the best guess. Maybe that plus the pressure. She had a lot of chips and there was absolutely no need for it. I'm sure she will be replaying this over and over in her head for years to come, and asking herself why.

It's very simple. The board very much hit Serock's UTG range. A check-raise semi-bluff was unlikely to work, and the consequences of being wrong would be devastating (being out of the Main 13th, despite having good chips and a skill edge over most of the remaining field).

It was also incorrect ICM-wise (value of her chips winning versus losing).

Have to agree with Druff here. Even her flop check-call is questionable as Serock used quite a large sizing (4m into 6m). If you defend against a pre-flop raise with 78 and the flop is A7x you may well be behind to an ace but a 7 or 8 will probably give you the best hand. It's very different with KQ on an AKJ board as neither a king nor a queen may be any good (as here). If she'd picked up a flush draw on the turn then the shove is much better as she'd have a lot of equity when called but, as played, just a punt.

It wasn't a good spot to run that bluff because she was representing one hand and one hand only. QT.

The bluff was bad not for the representation but because AK was the most likely holding with AJ right behind.

And it was that much worse because it was the chip leader.

Yeah I forgot to say that part, but I did yesterday when I was explaining the hand to someone else who doesn't play much poker.

That bluff probably had very few outs if called. Basically only a ten in many cases, so that's 4 outs one time. And it had the HUGE downside of being out of the event.

It's amazing that we have good players defending this bad play.

PokerGO management is VERY sensitive about copyright infringement. And they have Cary Katz money behind it. So their lawyers are very aggressive regarding threatening anyone or anything which steals their content.
