there are 3 general themes tho;
1) your advance is money paid out against future royalties.
2) you get half the advance up front and half when you turn in the book.
3) the money is held in escrow against the execution of the contract (manuscript received and approved for publishing).
it is virtually inconceivable that S&S would offer a contract with a clause in it that allowed milo to keep the money if he did/said anything to tank sales. and preaching the virtues of grown men fucking young boys is likely going to cross exactly that line.
