those words show schumer hasn't the nerve to exercise control over the government bureaucracy...so he has to go---civilian control of the government via elected officials is at the very foundation of American democracy...and schumer isn't doing the job he was elected to do if he isn't ready to oppose agencies like the CIA, NSA, FBI and military etc when necessary

I’m legit not even hating on him at all. The schizophrenia of the past few days is just unreal. It’s like the staff reels him in and tells him a third of the state department is ready to resign and fellow republicans are busting his balls on the phone all day telling him we’re the party of Tom Clancy novels wtf are you doing, and he falls back in line, and then it’s as if a giant red phone goes off in his office and everyone clears the room and Putin tells him to get his ass back out there and to say something retarded again.

I’ve never seen anything like it. Can you imagine the dude’s approval rating if he was simply sticking to look at the economy, tough on immigration here and abroad, and other populist positions? He’d be at 65% if he could just run on his actual record and not have to do Putin’s bidding with all the bizarre European shit and cozying up to every strongman dictator in the world while talking shit to all our allies. He can offer legit critique on their immigration poiicies without offending.

He’d have the entire Republican machine behind him full throttle and every Democrat in areas like I live would have to watch their step. Instead he has his own people hedging and distancing themselves. It’s just the most bizarre thing in the world to watch. He’d be a shoo-in for a second term. It has to drive him insane, and why I have to think he’s compromised. He lives to be loved, yet he has to go do this bullshit that leaves him sub 50% when he could be just embraced.

i agree with a lot of this. with a good economy and a populist message in 2018, he should be one of the more popular presidents in recent memory, but for the things he says on a daily basis.

Considering he only had like 2 clients, who else could he be talking about? Or to make sure he actually got his money back from Trump considering it seems like he’d pay shit and get reimbursed. I’m sure as a lawyer it feels like a huge ethical violation, and it is, but it was clearly some CYA move on his part. He didn’t seem to practice law in any traditional sense.

I mean, what would Hillary or Soros have paid for that tape on 11/1/16? I have to imagine a ton. That alone tells me it was an insurance policy of some sort.

It's not attorney-client privileged if they were conspiring to commit a crime. But it certainly makes me uneasy. As a lawyer myself I would never do something like this. Of course I wouldn't do a lot of things Cohen did. Fronting his own money (if that is indeed what happened) was already unethical. Cohen is like Better Call Saul, only incompetent.

i’m not talking about whether it’s privileged or not. i’m talking about the legality of tape recording someone without their knowledge. in most states that’s a crime, in addition to a violation of ethical rules if done by a lawyer

The reality is that Trump is a scumbag from NY who has conducted himself as such for decades. He hired scumbags, he made deals with scumbags, hell, he was the head scumbag. He surrounded himself with folks who would do his bidding for enough money, no matter the chore. Paying off mistresses, whores, near baby-mamas, politicians, judges, city officials, etc., was just part of his way of doing things. Lay down with dogs, you get fleas. But whatever, he was a billionaire, living his life the way he wanted, he was in charge and famous, and if that meant paying people off after you had your fun or made your next few million, whatever. What he didn't foresee was that he would actually win the election and once he did he didn't comprehend that now he was playing with folks who have more wealth, power, and means than he does, and it wasn't as simple as just buying off some slut who wanted a few hundred grand to prevent his next divorce; this was for keeps.

I have no sympathy for Trump. Personally I prefer his policies to Clinton's, but as I said a long time ago in this thread, there will not be any winners here when the dust settles, not by a longshot, instead we will all be losers.
