Anyway yeah, I was shocked when I read that "73% of all new cases are Omicron" news. I knew Omicron was going to take over for Delta, but I thought we were looking at something like January 1 before it significantly became a factor.

Nope. December 19th and it's already the vast majority of new cases.

I do see the government media pussyfooting around whether or not it's less severe, yet we're seeing little hints dropped here and there that this is the case. I wish we could just get some honesty about the severity thing. I have a feeling this is being held back in order to encourage vaccination and boosting. If the narrative gets out that Omicron is significantly less deadly, then you're going to see a big decline in vaccination enthusiasm.

I'm seeing more and more talk that COVID is headed in the direction of eventually being a common cold, and that Omicron is a major stepping stone in that journey. Would be funny if that's the end result of all this.

Let's say that occurs -- and happens fairly quickly (say, by December 2022). Are we going to see an unrolling of all the COVID politics and COVID-related jobs which have been created? I have a feeling the fear porn will stay with us no matter what.

I am not vaccinated, in pretty good health for my age, pretty sure I haven't gotten it at all until 2 days ago when I started showing symptoms and yesterday when I officially tested positive.
