US trade deficit with the rest of the world was 566 billion in 2017.
Census provides trade data by country for goods only, not services.
China - $375 billion deficit.
Canada - $18 billion deficit.
Mexico - $71 billion deficit.
Japan - $69 billion deficit.
Germany - $65 billion deficit.
We are not getting jobbed so much as fucked by our "friends." What is wrong with trying to level these numbers? We are the one with the roughly $20 trillion debt. This is what politicians have given us. The business man is trying to fix things.
Martin if you gave one iota of a shit about this country you'd live in it and you'd try to make it better. You lost you're rights to have an opinion about the USA or our POTUS when you ran like a bitch. At least thesidedish is a patriot...
We pay a premium for maple syrup because it's good af. Jesus Christ this isn't rocket science. Kidding aside you're acting like Canada doesn't provide us with ridiculous ally benefits. WE ARE ALLIES THAT ACTUALLY PROTECT EACH OTHERS' BORDERS. We wanna go to war, they've got our back. End of story. But hey we also like good music (giving arcade fire a pass here but whatever) and beer and hockey and football....totally worth an imaginary trade deficit. Seriously STFU and focus on something that matters.
Meanwhile Trump literally admitting to saving jobs in China because ZTE needs to be saved....wtf why....pull your head out of your ass.
#1 retard....I am a registered Republican in the state of California and have been a legal resident there my entire life
#2 I voted for Donald Trump precisely because I do care about my country. He is working for the people and shaking up a corrupt system
#3 not sure where this idea comes from that I 'bailed' on the United States came from. I have spent a lot of time in Mexico simply to play on Stars, and I travel the world for a living
#4 you are a liberal faggot so fuck off moron
LOL rum dick tilting like a motherfucker
I can hear him hammering away on his keyboard from here, and I'm halfway around the world right now
Typical libtard crying like a little bitch
Don't worry bro...only 6 1/2 more years to go....hang in there
It's historic that Trump and Kim met, and Kim at least paid lip service to denuclearization, so I give Trump a little credit for it. But the triumphalism shown by his supporters is extremely premature. This summit was basically a photo op and a chance for a dictator and an aspiring dictator to stroke each other's egos.
Real, permanent nuclear disarmament by NK will be a long process, and zero details have been worked out yet. It will be the kind of long, complex, technical and diplomatic process involving negotiations and multiple parties, exactly the sort of thing Trump has no patience for. It will probably closely resemble the Iran deal he backed out of. It is also well known that NK has a history of backing out of deals and of dishonesty particularly with regard to its nuclear program. Trump has already candidly stated that if he is wrong about Kim he won't admit to having been wrong but "I'll find some kind of excuse" to avoid taking responsibility.
Kim verbally committed to denuclearization without any discussion of what that actually means and gave up a rocket testing facility he doesn't need anymore, while extracting a significant concession from Trump (no more joint military exercises with South Korea). Kim played Trump.
Nothing real has happened yet, and until it does optimism for disarmament and credit for Trump are unjustified. For the good of the world, I do hope he succeeds.
So you rightfully resent being told that your voice means less just because you spend a lot of time outside the country. That being the case do you think it is fair or accurate for you to say the same about me? I am registered to vote in the state of Indiana and have been a legal resident there my entire life.
The problem is, as you mention, services are not included. When all economic activity is included the US has a trade surplus with Canada. Also, trade deficits and the national debt are not related.
Trade deficits are not necessarily as bad as they are made out to be. More data is needed to understand what it really tells us about a trade relationship. Often when there is a trade deficit, the money earned in the trade surplus country flows back into the trade deficit country in the form of investment. Sure enough, foreign cash is flowing into the US as investment. It keeps interest rates low and supports the value of investments like stocks and real estate.
Also, the US dollar is the world's reserve currency. High demand for the dollar drives up its value and makes exports relatively expensive and imports relatively cheap. There are many advantages to issuing the world's reserve currency, including low interest rates, less price volatility of commodities, and economic and political clout. But it does hurt trade balances somewhat. Most economists believe it is natural or even inevitable for the issuer of the world's reserve currency to run trade deficits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triffin_dilemma

a lot of what you said is true except i think trump deserves credit for actually trying something new and for defusing tensions on the korean peninsula. it does seem like the world is a touch safer.
what’s sad is that the media would be positively blowing obama as the savior of mankind if he did what trump is doing. (of course, it’s equally disgusting that fox news would be hammering obama for this.)
https://ustr.gov/countries-regions/americas/canada
"U.S. goods and services trade with Canada totaled an estimated $673.9 billion in 2017. Exports were $341.2 billion; imports were $332.8 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade surplus with Canada was $8.4 billion in 2017."
There are many ways how to count that, so there are different numbers for it. With the total trade at 700ish billion a surplus of less than 10 billion is roughly negligible. It's not so negligible you could say it's a deficit though.
Bout 65% of US trade deficit is with China. How much of that is American companies that have "relocated" their factories to China i don't know. They don't really advertise that much. In case someone doesn't know when American companies sell American products to American customers that are made somewhere else they are considered part of deficit. Trump has done it. Nike currently has 131 factories in China. This has pretty much been how it works since the 90s.
Out of the last 4 presidents Clinton did it and Bush or Obama could have done it whenever they felt like it. The reason why neither Bush or Obama didn't do it because NK didn't make enough concessions to even get the process started. I don't think Trump even asked anything, being the master negotiator he is.
The current agreement is based on the honor system. We need more details, but so far it looks like shit. It doesn't really matter though, since biggest US contribution in this is mostly to try not escalate this out of stupidity. Not sure if that's worthy of an award.
All this is happening because something happened with China-NK relations. I don't know what, but even with the current sanctions China could have kept NK afloat till the end of time. On the UN side China just vetoed every sanction proposal they couldn't circumvent. And on the US side all they need was commercial bank with no official ties to government.
i may be mistaken but i think clinton visited north korea in 2009, during obama’s term, in order to get some prisoners back. again, i might be wrong but i don’t think any sitting president ever met with north korean leadership.
agreed that something prob happened between china-north korea, but you don’t think it’s possible that that “something” was trump putting pressure on china through trade threats?
Mostly talking about making a deal for disarmament. I can't remember if Clinton physically met anyone from NK in 1994, but either way that was when the first nuclear disarmament deal was struck. It also was mostly based on the honor system. Whatever it accomplished was lost with the Bush's axis of evil thingie.
I doubt China cares. They know what the current trade deficit is made of and what it doesn't show. I looked up a few things about Nike since it was a classic big bad corporation from late 90s early 00s. They currently sell more products in China than they do in US. Their profit margin is bigger in China than it is in US. None of that is shown as trade surplus. Nearly all of Nikes products that are sold in US are counted as trade deficit. China currently only makes a third of all Nike shoes (rest are mostly in Vietnam and Indonesia), so it's not that bad. Anyway that's just one company that China could pressure to lobby for them.
If China wanted they could crush Nike and every other US company that is currently outsourcing their production in China and selling their products in China. The ripple effects would hit stock market and retail first. The clothing/shoes retail employs roughly 4 million. Bout 97% of their products are manufactured overseas. China isn't anymore the biggest manufacturer but it still controls a good chunk of it. Anyway the perception that China needs US because of the trade deficit is very flawed. The trade balance is much more even than it appears, it's just hidden in corporate fuckkery.
Anyway China isn't worried because they can rely on your corrupt political system to keep Trump in check. Your own companies are going to lobby for China. And as was seen if any money needs to exchange hands between China and US they can deal directly with the Trump family and get whatever they want for pennies. Few investments to Trump related businesses where at worst they lose a bit of equity, fast-laning Ivanka's trademark crap and throwing a bone for Kushner will get everything sorted.
Oh! Shots fired by New York State’s AG at Trump family members regarding their self-dealing using the Trump Foundation!
https://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...569_story.html
There’s more in the WP’s article, but here’s a screengrab of juicy piece of evidence:Quote:
The New York attorney general filed suit against President Trump and his three eldest children Thursday, alleging “persistently illegal conduct” at the president’s personal charity, saying Trump repeatedly misused the nonprofit organization — to pay off his businesses’ creditors, to decorate one of his golf clubs and to stage a multimillion-dollar giveaway at his 2016 campaign events.
#LockEmUp!
Per Pete Williams, James Comey told the IG that he didn't know Anthony Weiner was married to Huma Abedin.
Simply ignorant or a liar?
(((yes)))
IG found that on numerous occasions, COMEY used a personal GMail account to conduct official FBI business, according to source briefed on the report.
Jesus.
That's true, it may. Fortunately there is a seasoned team of investigators and a grand jury whose job it is to assess the credibility of witnesses.
One good thing that should come of this is that nobody in an important government position will be dumb enough to use unsecured servers again.
Tyde I'm not gonna muddle this thread by quoting your hilariously long tilt fail and replying to each lol executive action or bullshit proclamation you want to pretend actually constitutes an achievement. I asked for THREE actual achievements and you couldn't even do that. Seriously, all you did is babble off a page long rant citing examples of Trump taking credit for not completely fucking up the Obama era economic recovery (not yet that is) and for using the executive branch's power to do a bunch of insignificant crap equivalent to issuing a postage stamp of Drake in blackface. On second thought, I'd let you'd count a blackface Drake stamp as one of the three achievements.
List your 3 best and let's do this thing. Otherwise stfu and keep hiding from the real world with your 3rd world ladyboys.
As for me being a liberal...rofl. I can't even. Literally Druff and I are probably the only actual republicans posting on this site. But you and I can play the who actually knows and agrees with the GOP platform game if/when you demonstrate a working knowledge of the trump administration beyond knowing what trump's dick tastes like.
please do not stoop to these levels....tyde is tyde, some of us love him regardless. If you are republican, ok, if you voted trump, ok, but if you are ok with his shit since election then you are a complete and utter retard. Dumb, dumb, dumb
drop dead losers championing the fat fuck loser Donald Trump
A bit further, I consider Tyde to be a brother, so to speak. Don't agree by half but would fight with him regardless.
A real guy who can take a jab as well as give them
What I'm really trying to say is politics could never come between us. It could if you're a product of your environment
but my environment is not the same environment. Guy's the nuts
Any trump stan other than the one who fled from America bc life was too hard here want to kindly explain this paragraph away re the shit state of the trump foundation "charity" (bonus points to the one who admits you actually think the "charity" was obviously just a bunch of bullshit and he was scamming the system to his benefit because that's what "winners" do).
"Underwood said that oversight of spending at Trump’s foundation was so loose that its board of directors hadn’t met since 1999, and its official treasurer wasn’t even aware that he was on the board."
1999....NINETEEN NINETY LOL NINE...I get the fact that Michael Cohen is 100% the WOAT attorney ever but this isn't even trying to act legit.

Washing post is a credible source............
Thanks to nafta and gat, Mexicans no longer wish to come here, their economy has improved and their cost of living is still low, so contrary to popular belief, the majority of illegals crossing these days aren't Mexicans, they tend to be from further south of Mexico.......you know...the ones that manage to get through *ahem* Mexico's wall on the southern border.....
So which is it? trump constantly says that Mexico has super strong borders and they don’t let anyone in, yet now the argument is that the people crossing are from Guatemala and other Central American countries. So does Mexico have a super strong border or not?
This America first bullsht is stupid. Everyone improved because of NAFTA. Nationalism is no way to look into the future. You are correct that the Mexican economy has improved a great deal especially because of trade. The drug war needs to stop. It had gotten much better and I’m sure if we can find a way for trump to make money at it he can work with the cartels.
