Yeah I figured that was likely from your son but didn’t want to ask. I knew he went to school in New England. Bryant I believe?

Imagine being such a hot commodity that you turn down a guaranteed $440 million.
Juan Soto said "no" to the Nationals' offer of 15 years, $440m, which would have put him at age 38 when the contract was over.
Now the Nats might trade him. He is under team control through the end of the 2024 season. He is having a bit of a down year in 2022, batting only .245, but he does have a .401 OBP and 20 HR.
Cardinals and Yankees are most likely destinations. However, this will come at a steep price -- top prospects and young Major Leaguers with a potential bright future. The Dodgers have already locked up big money in Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, and are expected to lay out a large offer to Trea Turner. They want Soto, but simply might be out of money to spend for a long term contract.
Most teams giving up the prospects to get Soto are likely to want to sign him long term, not just rent him for 2+ years. It is possible the Dodgers are willing to simply take the 2+ years and evaluate an extension later.
There are many who believe that Soto's best years are ahead of him, and note that he is younger than several who just pahticipated in the "Futures" game during All Star Weekend!
Here's the main pieces the Nats would likely be seeking from each team which seems to be interested:
Yankees: Gleyber Torres, Anthony Volpe, Jasson Dominguez
Dodgers: Gavin Lux, Diego Cartaya, Bobby Miller
Mets: Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty, Ronny Mauricio
Cardinals: Tyler O'Neill, Nolan Gorman, Jordan Walker, Matthew Liberatore
Padres: Mackenzie Gore, Robert Hassell, CJ Abrams
There's also a chance that Soto won't move at all. However, he has turned down their extension offer, and they have the worst record in baseball, so it might be the ideal time to ship him.
Almost 100 games in. Here's the way it looks:
Pleasant surprises: Yankees, Orioles, Astros, Mariners, Diamondbacks
Disappointments: White Sox, Red Sox, Angels, Giants, Cubs, Nationals, Reds
The rest are around where they were expected to be. Dodgers (65-32) are projected to win 106 just like last year. They may not due to load management, but this team was expected to be really good. Braves had a pretty bad start but have been hot lately and have caught up to their expected record. NL and AL Central will both be a battle for the king of mediocrity. Marlins (46-52) were expected to ride good pitching to be near .500, and indeed that's where they are.
Angels have been a complete fail, especially considering their 27-15 start. Now there's talk of trading Ohtani, which was unthinkable when the year started.
Yankees were expected to be good, but not this good. Aaron Judge has a lot to do with this.
And amazingly, the Sawks are trailing the Orioles now.
Dodger trade deadline news that will surprise no one that has followed their fail the last decade plus
The traditional zero.zero trades to bolster bullpen….
or starting rotation for that matter.
I guess Betts, Freeman & (the good) Turner are gonna carry the playoffs.
Craig Kimbrel has gotta be pleased.
Because I have the unique gift of being completely objective about the Dodgers I stand in wonder at the Mookie Betts trade. The Red Sox have always OWNED the Dodgers in modern trades but this was the one time Dodgers STOLE
The little Jewish kid, Chiam Bloom, who is the Sawks GM is a fuck up. Sawks are so directionless they prolly punt everything else away.
Dodgers: Betts, Price, cash (all from Red Sox) and Brusdar Graterol, outfielder Luke Raley, 2020 Competitive Round B draft pick
Red Sox: Alex Verdugo, Jeter Downs, Connor Wong (from Dodgers).
Every time I see Verdugo I just shake my head. I do laugh when I see Price in a Dodger uniform but it’s not enough.
Good one Druff.
How is it that Gavin Lux made it to the pros having never learned how to throw a baseball?
Life isn’t fair.
Keep an eye on your wallet that says, “Dodgers”
Mr. Haney (full name: Eustace Charleston Haney) was a Beverly Hillbillies sneaky and notorious conman
Lotta guys that consider themselves sharp are taking Giants. I’m not sharp - just objective. F5
This exercise has proven therapeutic for me and I thank you for indulging in Dodger talk.
I see you Tickle. It’s a Mets holiday. Go ahead and take them RL -148. Technically, it’s wrong price-wise but it’s Scherzer breathing fire. You NEVER have to question Scherzer playing down to an opponent.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if Soto is gone before first pitch?
Soto given standing ovation in DC. Assumed to be a good chance it was his last game.
If he's not in the lineup later today, watch for the headlines.
My Padres laundering money for the Tijuana cartel theory grows stronger every year after decades of being non-spenders and a cable deal that’s middling. Soto and Bell ffs. That’s going to be a hell of a payroll next year.
:to
Knew those three would be the main pieces if the Padres pulled it off.
As Soto has 2 full seasons under team control, plus the remainder of this one, the Padres could possibly be doing a rent-to-own thing, where they evaluate him for the next 2.4 years, and then decide if they really want to lay out the big money in 2025.
Are they really going to have the money to pay for him, Tatis, and the remainder of Machado's salary? Hard to picture that, especially if they don't want their pitching to be shit. You don't want to be an Angels and have a lineup with a few superstars, yet shit roleplayers and no pitching.
Ohtani didn't move, and I guess the Angels are banking on Trout's career really having a continued trajectory. There's still the possibility that his "rare" back condition might mean he is never going to be consistently healthy, and might join Jacob Degrom in history as outrageously talented players who were cut down by physical ailments.
Sanlmar probably laughed at the Dodgers' big move being acquiring Joey Gallo.
Gallo is a poor man's Bellinger. Not as good defensively, presently struggling, and not nearly as good at his peak.
Probably has some use as a late-inning left-handed power bat off the bench, but that's about it.
So yeah... you're down 6-3 in the 9th inning with 2 out, 2 on, and you bring up Gallo. Most of the time he whiffs, occasionally he'll belt the game-tying HR.
There wasn't a tremendous starting pitcher available this year, so I don't mind the Dodgers sitting that one out. Would've been nice if they grabbed some bullpen help, though. The whole bullpen makes me nervous at the moment.
Hell, even take Pedro Baez back out of minor league mothballs (yes, he's in their organization again) and let him have his shot. At least he has streaks where he's unhittable.
Moved the Vin Scully stuff here: https://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/sh...RIP-Vin-Scully
The Padres acquired an impact player at the deadline with 20 HR who indeed made a big impact in his first game with them today.
He hit a GRAND SLAM in his first AB.
Wait, you're thinking of Juan Soto? I'm not talking about Juan Soto. His first AB was a walk.
I'm talking about Brandon Drury, who somehow was the Reds' best hitter this year, and hit a slam today in his Padres debut.
This was a GREAT pickup for the Padres. Drury is killing it this year, and they only gave up a middling minor leaguer (Victor Acosta) to acquire him.
When Tatis comes back, the Padres are gonna have one killer lineup, between Machado, Soto, Tatis, Josh Bell (also newly acquired), and Drury. Hosmer got shipped off to Boston, though. They won't catch the Dodgers, but they might be a problem in the postseason. Pitching still questionable, though.
No sooner did you push submit on this post - Craig Kimbrel is loading the bases in a 3-0 game bottom 9.
Pitching is still questionable.
Hey, the Yankees landed Frankie Montas. It’s a question of fortitude. I think there is little question the Yankees will be AL Champions. It is a free for all in the NL.
Dodgers had Montas briefly, but he never pitched for them. I'm not impressed. Sure, he's had a fairly good year, but take him out of the Oakland pitchers park, and he's probably nothing special. He's exactly the type of guy I could see choking big time in the playoffs.
Honestly there were no pitching greats to be had this deadline.
It really shows the sad state of MLB economics when only about 7 teams were in on Soto. Imagine Mahomes demanding a trade in the NFL. ~28 teams would submit offers.
Padres got an absolute steal. That package was weak if it was for Soto alone, embarrassingly weak for also getting Bell. If they don't extend Soto then MAYBE its a quasi-fair trade.
No one on the Padres primary starting lineup or starting 5 were homegrown, and all except Machado acquired via trade. That is amazing. Meanwhile, in the same division, you have the Rockies....whose front office are basically deadbeat dads. They'll occasionally give some money to their shitty kids, but otherwise are constantly on vaca in Aspen or something.
Angels hit 7 solo HRs and lose to Oakland 8-7.
:lol2
Set Ohtani free. Kid doesn’t deserve this torture.
The new-look Padres came into Dodger Stadium, and got stomped on.
The two teams have 11 more games this season (including tonight), but Dodgers have a 13.5 game lead, and the NL West is basically over. Even the Padres concede that they are playing for a wildcard, not to win the West.
Dodgers need to go into player preservation mode, and not try to do anything stupid like win 110 games. Unlike last year, where they were in a harsh battle to win the West (falling short despite winning 106 games), this year there is no such pressure.
This is a great regular season team. Even with a disappointing year out of Muncy, as well as losing Walker Buehler, this is still a great regular season team. It's hard not to be when you have Mookie Betts / Trea Turner / Freddie Freeman, good starting pitching, and good role players.
However, the postseason is a different story. The pitching worries me. Gonsolin is already starting to crack. Tyler Anderson is inconsistent -- he's had 5 great starts in his past 10, and 5 which were mediocre/bad. Kershaw is injured. Buehler likely won't contribute anything meaningful in 2022. So who does that leave? Only Julio Urias looks reliable as a postseason starter at the moment. The bullpen, a strength last year, also looks quite questionable.
It's hard to complain about a team which is 73-33 and 13.5 games ahead. But am I super confident about the postseason? No.
Also, there's the Yankees and Astros, both of whom will be tough opponents if the Dodgers face them in the World Series. If it's the Yankees, I don't see myself going to a game. All of the ex-New-Yorkers out here are gonna drive up the price big time. It's been 41 years since these two teams faced each other in the Fall Classic.
The Mets are over 30 games above .500 for the first time in my entire fandom. It's amazing what happens when good pitching gets run support
We might very well be looking at a Dodgers/Mets NLCS
Dodgers beating the new-look Padres AGAIN, and going for the sweep..
Very Karinchak inning for your boy tonight San.

Kid gives me a heart attack, but he’s getting it done. Him going off the field was priceless.
That he’s our only unvaccinated player as we prepare for first trip to Toronto is unsurprising. Crazy is part of his charm. I’ll give him a pass.
Al Avila has been fired.

They never got going during his entire tenure.
The most profitable team in Baseball since July 4th has been the Dodgers 28-4. Followed by Orioles, Mets, Mariners
The least profitable team since July 4th has been the Yankees.
That’s pretty thought provoking.
Yeah, I think Guardians take the Central with Clase & Karincheck and Tito as manager being the difference.
Speaking of the backend. Another Craig Kimbrel experience tonight, I’m told. Extra bases, wild pitches, runs. Didn’t see it personally but it’s nothing new.
I have still not seen Mets Diaz this year live.
Astros and Jays are still on the banned list.
Betts Freeman & Turner are simply incredible.
This Field of Dreams game tomorrow between Cubs and Reds is an abomination. Like the Apple TV games I suspect a juiced ball and over - but these teams are so bad. I am just gonna autobet over 9 and check the box score tomorrow night. Too much money spent and hype to leave the entertainment to chance. I just convinced myself.
Baseball is really so bad this year. The playoff format is a joke. We will get thru it though.
Agree the playoff format is a joke. At least the Dodgers get a bye out of this ridiculousness in the first round.
LOL 12 of 30 teams in baseball making it to the postseason, in a 162-game season full of variance. Brutal.
Here are the teams in contention for the postseason:
Class 1: Excellent teams
Dodgers
Yankees
Astros
Mets (feels dirty to write this)
Class 2: Good teams
Braves
Padres
Mariners
Phillies
Class 3: Marginal teams
Blue Jays
Rays
Orioles
Indians
Twins
White Sox
Cardinals
Brewers
This means 16 of 30 teams are in realistic contention right now, though this number is a bit inflated due to the mediocrity in both Central divisions, which leaves .500ish teams like the White Sox with a decent shot to win the division.
If the playoffs were based upon today's standings:
Bye in first round: Dodgers, Mets, Yankees, Astros
Other 2 division winners: Cardinals, Indians
Wildcards: Mariners, Blue Jays, Rays or Orioles (tied right now), Braves, Phillies, Padres
So of these 12 teams, the worst is the Rays or Orioles, currently both at .527, which projects to 85 wins.
The other 5 wildcards would range between 88 and 95 wins.
An 88-win team winning the World Series isn't terrible, though it is if there are four teams with well over 100 wins, which there very well might be. An 85-win team winning the World Series is a travesty.
The Dodgers offense is an absolute machine now that Muncy and Bellinger are hitting.
That bullpen really scares me though. Not just Kimbrel. Pretty much all of them. I really hope that's not on this team's epitaph in October. There wasn't much in the way of starting pitching worth having, so I'm fine with the lack of moves there. They could've grabbed some bullpen help. There's always some outlier middle reliever on a bad team having a career year, who can be had for cheap. Huge mistake to leave a gaping bullpen hole like this when you have an offense which crushes like this.
Dodgers with a crushing 589/353 scored/allowed ratio right now. They and the Yankees are both 1-2 in runs scored AND fewest runs allowed.
It will probably take ~88 wins to get in the AL WC I bet. If we assume the Jays and Mariners are in, there's 3 teams (Rays, and two of Twins/Guardians/White Sox) with 83-85 projected wins left, one of them is likely to overperform by a few wins and take the last spot.
Interesting pull mentioning an 88 win team which was Atlanta last year. Im not sure how suddenly 3 less wins for a team due to pure luck from a couple odd bounces of the baseball turns it into a travesty though seems a little random. I mean NFL has had marginal teams win the SB (see Giants over NE with a regular season of 9-7). NHL has had teams with a win/point record as low as .530 before including Shittsburg Penguins back to back in 91 and 92 but nothing compared to Chicago in 1938 who had an abysmal 14-25-9 record. But back to baseball hey Druff remember 2006?? Cardinals won the World Series with 83 wins and the Twins won it in 1987 with that 85 win total so it can and has happened even before the increase in playoff teams.
I’ve watched a lot of those marginal AL teams and I’m more certain than ever that all of them are drawing very close to dead. In years past, I thought one of them might catch a heater. I truly don’t think any of them can win it this year.
There are two different tournaments.
For poker players, you can think of the regular season as a satellite tournament earning a seat to the playoffs.
Regular season wins can have little to do with your tournament success. It’s two entirely different seasons with different skill requirements. The biggest difference is pitching vs offense. You know this.
Run differential results applied to the playoffs is exercise in mental masturbation. You ever watch regular season get away games punted with a position player on the mound - most extreme example. Teams manage bullpens.
If you have ever played tournament baseball you get it.
The Dodgers are prima facie evidence of a large sample size of this fact. This has has been the secret sauce to my Dodger playoff insight.
Do you remember the Dodgers announcing that Kershaw would be eligible out of the bullpen vs the Nationals? True to dimwit Dave Robert’s word Kershaw comes out of the bullpen and surrenders back to back HR’s. One of my two or three greatest scores occurred that night. +900 stuff. Why give the opponent your game plan and allow them to prepare? Idk. I posted my pregame plan and real-time sports book pictures.
The frustration I read about teams with low regular season wins taking the prize evidences a lack of understanding. If you are a MLB gambler you can ignore these facts at your own peril.
Healthy Mets son. Yankees reliever Chad Green’s injury is a huge deal.
Variance and World Series wins?
How about the Bubbe-chip?
Teams didn’t even play the same number of games? There were teams that had their entire lineup out (insert Mariners) and had to play and other teams got byes.
For you conspiracy theorists - did you ever wonder why the Dodgers never got sick? Just good luck, lol? Was it hand sanitizing and masks?
Yeah, you know what I’m saying. Everyone cheats.
Dodgers got a trophy for good hygiene.
"Tournament baseball" when you are 16 or w/e is probably slightly different from the MLB.
And variance/luck is omega real, lol at "marginal teams have no shot". Steve fucking Pearce was the WS MVP in 2018, and the last 8 winners are all unique (inc the Royals and the Nats).
Tatis out 80 games for PEDs
Ouch
LMAO Tatis. "Whoops, a steroid in my anti-fungal cream, I SWEAR!" He probably found a stash at his dads house.
I wonder if he still has to pay 10% of his lost salary to that company he signed with in the minors. Prellers statement speaks volumes, but I was saying that on here on whichever thread we were talking about that loan shark deal. Kid might not be the sharpest tool in the shed.
Ima check in here next year and Druff will still be whining about the new playoff format. The 1 and 2 seeds getting a bye is a big deal and I anticipate these teams winning the WS at a higher rate . Just not this year, Padres and the Bill Simmons Ewing Theory are about to go on a heater and bring SD their first major championship..
Is there any way the Pads try to void the Tatis deal or trade him after this? The locals are pissed, my play would be keep him just cause I want to see Jr, Soto, Machado in the same lineup but there is no trust right now between team and player and might be time to sell.
The day we traded for Soto I Took my son out for his 21st birthday and he kept hyping me up on the Padres, Chargers Clippers trifecta to win it. My good friend that played college ball hates AJ Preller and didn't like trading all that talent for a 2.5 year rental. We Shall See
They SHOULD be able to void his contract for something like this. Unfortunately, they can't. The collective bargaining rules don't allow it, which is totally unfair to team owners. The stats they were paying for may not have been real, so it's unfair to stick the Padres on the hook for the remainder. However, here we are.
On the plus side, Tatis was actually very well regarded. Unless he was juicing the whole way, this might just be a Bonds/Clemens situation where an excellent player was doing roids to get an even bigger edge. (Well, to be fair, Bonds and Clemens were more doing it because they were getting up there in years, whereas Tatis is young.)
Non-roids Tatis might be better compared to non-roids Ryan Braun. Braun, who cheated poor Matt Kemp (remember him?) out of an MVP, still had a productive career once he was off the juice. Just not quite as good.
While the Padres have an impressive lineup (even without Tatis), they will continue playing second fiddle to the Dodgers. They don't even have a Mets thing going on, where two monster starters and a monster closer might be able to make up the gap against the Dodgers in the postseason. The Padres are just a worse version of the Dodgers all around, and that showed in the last series.
Dodgers on the way to winning their 12th in a row tonight -- as if they even need it.
This was the exact point in the 2017 season when SI published that obnoxious "BEST TEAM EVER?" cover, and then the Dodgers went into their big slump. To be fair, they would have won the World Series that year if not for the cheating Astros' antics.
