First off, this isn't a popular vote contest. In swing states, Trump is polling well against all Dem candidates.
Second, the incumbent usually polls poorly against lesser known challengers on the other side, until the general election where the challenger has to face far increased scrutiny.
Even Mondale was polling ahead of Reagan at one point, and he lost 49 of 50 states.

Given how Biden flopped, Amy saved Bernie from Pete winning. It’s going to be uncomfortably close as is. Yang gone. Decent chance Warren is gone. That will help Bernie for most part.
