It literally takes 2 seconds google searching to see why Trump likely issued the pardon. The bribes were coming from Azerbaijan (which would presumably come up in the trial and be a bad look for them) and Trump is heavily involved in deals with Azerbaijan. So most likely he is doing them a solid with the pardon and will expect something in return. Trump is purely transactional, and doing something like this is very on brand for him.Quote:
