the dodgers must be leading the league in wacky fucking plays towards the end of games this year.
I had the pleasure of catching the last few innings of both games over the weekend, so I got to see the Dodgers steal defeat from the hands of certain victory both games. Although when the bases loaded in the 7th yesterday that was one of those situations where you knew it was gonna happen, so no big surprise. Still, very LOL.
Well at least you're not obsessed with me.
Think about me more, really, a little more.
I forgot you were even alive.
Now you've gone from thread to thread crying that I have changed my life, and you can't accept it.
It's really gotta suck to be that miserable about your own existence.
LMK if you need some help, if even just a pep talk.
Anyway, you made me forget why I came to this thread in the first place.
Dodgers phillies kicking off tonight. Game 1 is close in the 8th. We need to win 5 of 6 this week or were having a fire sale next week
Phils take game 1!!!
Halladay returning tomorrow
Well, Hanley Ramirez is now a Dodger.

Mixed feelings about this one. He will be a huge upgrade at 3B or SS. My feeling right now is that they should let Cruz keep playing SS (because he's hitting fairly well) and put Hanley at third.
But anyway, he is hitting poorly this year (and was also disappointing in 2001), and he is owed around $37 million (I think) between now and 2014. That's a lot of salary to take on for a guy who is hitting under .250 at the moment.
I was hoping they would get a rent-a-player type -- someone they could pick up in a salary dump move, without having to shoulder extra years of an overpriced salary.
They're 2 1/2 behind the Giants and need help, though.
Would be nice if they can snag a good starter, too.
They didn't give up much at all in this trade. Nate Eovaldi has sucked so far.
I just wish they weren't paying so much for Ramirez.
I think it's a great trade for the Dodgers, or at least a pure upside move. Even Hanley at his current production is better than what they had, and Choate has been killing as a lefty-killer out of the pen. I'm guessing the Dodgers said "we'll take on his whole salary as long as we only give back low-ceiling prospects." If the ownership wants to spend it, then why not?
Of course you wonder why Miami couldn't get better offers.
Rumor also has it that Ryan Dempster (who has trade veto rights) wants to go to the Dodgers, as opposed to the Braves, where the Cubs already have a deal in place. Cubs apparently asking for at least high end prospect though in return
I think it's a pretty decent trade for the Dodgers. The knocks on Ramirez are he's had a bad year and a half, and he's a bit unenthusiastic. I wouldn't go so far to call him a problem, but his head isn't in the game at times.
The kid can get really hot though and carry you for weeks at a time. He is the type where a change of scenery could just snap him out of it. He isn't old and on the decline, and he's a talented player. Why he has played under par the past few years is a big question mark for everyone considering his talent level. I consider him a good gamble, and the Dodgers can afford him. If he doesn't work out, he's still movable in the off-season if they picked up just a small amount of his contract. He's young enough and talented enough where someone will certainly take him off your hands if the Dodgers picked up $2-$3 million a year on his contract should he continue to under-perform and they want to move him.
The talk just yesterday on S.Florida radio was that they wouldn't trade him unless someone was willing to also take Heath Bell's new contract, which is horrible, so they aren't going to be happy down there at all. This almost assures that the Marlins are going to have to attach Bell to Johnson in order to rid themselves of Bell's albatross, and essentially go into full rebuild the year after building a new stadium. Being down there last winter, it appeared the Marlin's were poised to turn the corner, but this season has been worst case scenario. Under-performing players, injuries, and the worst attendance in league history for a team who just opened a stadium. Their only sell-out was opening day.
Ramirez is lazy. Doesn't care about fielding at all. Thinks its a waste of his time. Hes living off his 2009 season and his talent/potential. Maybe this trade wakes him up. Usually these guys dont care where they are.
horrible work ethic......he got his big money, now he doesn't care about playing at a high level. maybe being on a team that can go to the playoffs, and being around all the latinos will make him want to play like he's capable....i wouldn't count on it...but the dodgers other options were lol bad. can't be any worse then it was..so it could be a big +
LOL
10-0 today
Dodgers just one win away from sweeping the Giants and moving back into a first place tie.

If there was one sport I could eliminate from this world it would be baseball. I would rather watch tennis, volleyball, curling, woman's basketball even.
I use to feel like this too. When I was a kid I hated watching baseball on tv. Even more torture came from listening to baseball on the radio when my dad would listen to it on the ride home from school. He would listen to the Dodgers and I grew to hate Vince Scully's voice over time.
That all changed the year Boston won the World Series and had their epic run against the Yankees in the Al championship. I watched every game Boston played and just got hooked. I do, however, hate the Red Sox with a passion now and I have much respect for Vince Scully and his work. ......Go Angels!
I use to go to games as a kid. I ran around old Tiger Stadium quite a few times and luckily avoided whatever pedophiles were lurking around. I also use to listen to Ernie Harwell on the radio announcing games, then the Tigers won in 1984 but since then it was downhill. I moved to Toronto while the BlueJays played in Exhibition Stadium (a football field) where tickets were sold for $4 each and beer was a couple bucks. While on work boondoogles I visited Chicago, Boston, LA, Anaheim, probably some other stadiums as well and had good times supporting the beer stand. The event that turned me off for good was the strike in the 90's. Once the business took the front pages the romance was over for me. The game was dull and the players wanted lol millions of dollars to play it. Ticket prices went way up and beer is now $10 each. Fuck that. Break the cycle. My kids have never played the game nor gone to a game nor witnessed me watching a game on TV. They have grown without baseball and it's very unlikely they will pick it up or introduce it to their kids.
I am surprised it is still a viable business with the salaries the way they are. Why do people like supporting these athletes? Let it die.
Hockey is going the same route for me. I no longer go to NHL games although I still know what a trap is (limitles shot) My kids play and I have an ice rink in the backyard during winter but that is more a fuck you towards the weather and what the hell else is there to do during winter in Canada. I support OHL hockey and the odd AHL game but the NHL is just silly. I can buy season tickets in the OHL for the price of one family outing to see the Leafs play.
The bubble has to break.
Funny, I was about to say some of the best baseball for me as of late has been via radio.....Vancouver Canadians (single A) broadcasts are very good. It's all about theatre of the mind....blah, blah, blah. Baseball is a bit like golf, if you're into it i.e. playing it, then it's addictive.
Number of runs the Giants scored against the Dodgers this weekend:

:lol
First time since 1957 that the Dodgers have shut out the Giants twice in a row while in the Giants' home park.
Yes, I realize the Dodgers got shut out 3 times in a row last time they visited SF, but they had no Kemp, no Ethier, and basically fielded a minor league lineup.
Anyway, good job, Giants. Chunked off a 3-game lead while facing the Dodgers on your home field. You could have been 6 games up if the series went the other way.
Relax, it wasn't too long ago the Giants were 6 games back.
We didn't have Pablo this series, and Either did in fact play in all 3 games when the G's shut them out, so not sure what you mean there.
The momentum has switched back to LA, and $$$ the new ownership is willing to spend has drawn first blood, I'll give you that, but there is still 60 to go, and 9 games heads up, Pablo will be back and SF's pitching is still better.
Druff is like the Baghdad Bob of Dodgers fans.
"Everything is great! We have just defeated the infidels! Praise be to Mohammed Kemp!"
Never around when buildings are being bombed and body parts are all over the place, but shows up right when a small victory is scored.
I have to derail this thread to mention how stoked that the halos have picked up Greinke to go with Weaver, Wilson and a healthy Haren. Hopefully Santana can cut it in the pen.
You're right, Ethier was there, but there was no Kemp or Mark Ellis. And I believe Ethier was already struggling, on the way to being on the DL.
Anyway, I like the Dodgers' chances, even if SF's pitching is a little better.
ESPN also puts the Dodgers' chances at making the playoffs higher than SF, if you look at their standings today.
Victorino to the Dodgers.
Pence to the Giants
I just read Ethier was hurt, so w/Ellis yeah that hardly resembles the same team.
LA's bats are better for sure, and SF pitching probably is, but the difference between the bats is much bigger than the dif in pitching, so if you could get action today, I could see why LA would be favored.
I think that sweep was the trigger to get Hunter Pence.
Its like the Dodgers are flexing their bankroll, and the Giants are (or hopefully were) trying to figure out the least possible they can spend, and still win the division by 1 game.
I'm actually jealous today.
I would much rather have Pence than Victorino. Always thought Victorino was overrated.
However, the combo of Ramirez/Victorino is better than Pence, so the Dodgers still improved themselves more than the Giants overall.
Will be interesting down the stretch.
I would say the Angels improved the most so far, simply by adding Grienke at a moderate price, but the Dodgers are a close second. a top 5 in the order of Victorino, Ellis, Kemp, Ethier, Ramirez can be solid enough to win in the playoffs. I still think the D'Backs are gonna be in it til the end though, and I'm not sure any west team will get a wild card. Should be fun to watch.
Basically yes. So in this instance, they can only negotiate a trade with the Dodgers, and they have until Sunday. Or they could let him just go, although apparently Amaro said he's not doing that.
Many times in these scenarios, teams make the waiver claim merely as a way to block a potential trade to a competing team. With high-priced aging veterans, this can backfire as, again, the old team can just award you the claim and you have to take the player.
This happened a couple times to the White Sox in the last 5 years with Alex Rios and Manny Ramirez. Rios has worked out well for them, and they may have actually wanted him. Ramirez they certainly didn't, and were just trying to block a trade.
As a Giant fan I can say w/all my heart Vin Scully is just the best,
Here is he is translating Jim Tracy, which anyone can tell is throwing out F bombs left and right, into a PG version.

Dodgers took 2 of 3 from the slipping Marlins, but more importantly sprayed over 10 hits in each of the three games.
Victorino, who I always felt was overrated, isn't going to make much of an impact. Blanton is an innings-eater, and will really only serve to avoid the Dodgers having to use a minor league pitcher du jour to fill the 5th pitching spot.
Hanley Ramirez is looking pretty good so far, and you can tell that he's enjoying his new team. That's important for an emotional player like Hanley.
Giants are finally hitting, so the Dodgers are going to have to play some pretty good baseball to win the division. I think it's going to be a close race to the finish.
