The 2nd Amendment does NOT provide immunity from civil liabilitity for selling a gun to someone who commits a crime with it. If civil liability law was reformed to make gun sellers and manufacturers civil liable for the damages caused by mass shootings, you’d see the gun industry go into high gear to work to get and keep guns out of the hands of homicidal assholes like the recent shooters.

The 2nd amendment, as well as the rest of the constitution, must be defended continually and with vigor.

That said, and speaking as someone who owns an AR15, there is absolutely no reason why high capacity semi automatic rifles should be as easily obtainable as they are. As a society we place limits on firearms and weapons such as fully automatic guns, explosive devices, etc.

At this point it's entirely reasonable and proper to revisit banning the sale and distribution of these weapons, or at the very least making it difficult to obtain one.

The fact that any deranged fool can waltz into a gun store and walk out with one of these things cannot be considered acceptable any longer. The carnage associated with these incidents is bad enough, but the "terror", in the truest sense of the word, that is being inflicted on the collective American psyche is compounding and must be arrested.

For example, my wife’s family owns an 8000 acre ranch in Montana and they always have guns with them. You plan on taking their guns away? Would be a bad day for everyone involved.

I’m of the opinion that whatever is made illegal will just have a huge uptick in demand coming over the border and the crazy people will get their hands on what they want anyway. I agree with you that something needs to be done even if it doesn’t work. Every time this happens and nothing changes then it happens again and we look pretty fuckin stupid for not doing anything. My issue is, I haven’t heard any ideas that I think will impact this problem in a meaningful way.

the focus shouldn't be on eliminating mass killings. it should be on reducing them and reducing the number of casualties. the impact also doesn't need to be immediate.

making it harder to obtain these weapons -- prohibiting their legal sale or ownership, banning the sale of the bullets -- would reduce the number of casualties over time.

we don't tolerate this sort of reasoning in any other aspect of our lives, but for some reason some of you just throw up our hands with gun violence.

like 10 assholes on planes took down some buildings on 9/11 one fucking time and we invested like a trillion dollars in counterterrorism and airport security, giving up a shit ton of our freedom and privacy in the process.
