But has Porsche run its Taycan there?
Porsche Taycan gets praise from Tesla’s Elon Musk on Nürburgring record

Holy shit! If there ever was an example of speaking too soon...

this solarcity shit is a problem. the accusation at bar is that solarcity was insolvent but somehow musk saw fit to essentially funnel billions into it, and by extension his own pocket. even if one says 'ok well its a hugely important tech mission and the ends justify etc etc', the blowback could be really, really, really bad, and its amplifying every single unit failure event, eg a kit in colorado caught on fire and now thats the banner headline because of the other drama blowing up around solarcity. so there is a real potential for a perfect storm to go much further than the 6%+ drop in stock value today.
semi-related:
full disclosure.. i pulled my model y pre-order a couple of weeks ago for three reasons:
1) first run teslas tend to have problems and im not super into beta testing a car for free.
2) im not actually entirely convinced that the model y is going to drop before 2021.
3) there was a slight price drop in my chosen configuration and i'd have never known had i not logged in on a whim to check; after 'reconfiguring' my car (literally choosing all the same options and hitting save), my cost reflected the new price. not cool.
bonus reason:
4) when things go well with a tesla order, they go VERY well. when things dont, you end up in this weird bureaucratic maze where department x cant see whats going on in department y despite department z telling you that x are the people you need to speak with.
the china gigafactory is going to start generating revenue in earnest by years end pending Real Drama so im not viewing any of the issues at bar as extinction events, and ill gladly pick up my model y once they start shipping, but there just wasnt an upside to pre-ordering that i could find so here we are.
yeah i feel like there was a unified theory end game where solarcity / tesla wall / car get bundled together and real talk i gladly sign the dotted line for that action, but my optimism is predicated on solarcity surviving long enough to roll out a stable product and train up competent installation engineers. my gut says the china / europe plays are going to stabilize the situation by q2 / q3 2020 but its going to be nerve wracking getting there.
Possibly the best long-form user-generated unsponsored unintentional advertisement for a Tesla automobile to date. It’s 50+ minutes long, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself watching the whole thing.

color me old fashioned but i think concepts like 'beta version' should be airgapped from anything automotive in nature.
At least they didn’t call it alpha?

absolutely guaranteed there is something in here to trigger every miniboomer on this site.
Wait for it, wait for it.....
Production #’s .... I know that’s not really the point but still fun.
Whatcha smokin?
i was going to suggest tesla roll back the auto-summon feature immediately but its absolutely central to their automated taxi-fleet uber-killer concept and they just acquired an AI company to help them make it happen, so i expect dark days on the stock front.
thats the naked face of the tesla gambit right now; can they survive long enough to roll out a functional self driving fleet of taxis. its a bit infuriating because im really not sure the potential upsides justify extending beyond their more immediate identity as 'a company selling an amazing car'.
im already seeing an avalanche of obviously fake auto-summon complaints getting the good old sosh media retweet amplifications from accounts clearly run/orchestrated by trollfarms so i hope to christ the market sees it as well as i do.

There was once a time in the auto industry when “win on Sunday - sell on Monday” was a thing.
Of course, you weren’t buying Richard Pettys engine. It was cache. Tesla can code some trick shit. Trot it out on social media and Joe Rogan. The Tesla image will sell cars. You don’t have to jam it into production.
Go ahead and show off a little. Hype and braggadocio works.
You do get that cars are sold primarily based on image and marketing? It is about making and selling lots of cars at a profit. The rest is noise. You don’t have to buy the expensive product liability insurance.
Lol ... just funny at this point

Tesla said Wednesday it delivered a record 97,000 electric vehicles in the third quarter, a nearly 2% increase from the previous period, but still short of analysts’ expectations.
Tesla shares fell nearly 6% in after market trading on the news.
Sanlimar, once again, on his game.
Nope, Tesla smashed expectations and the stock is up 10% after hours.
With $10.5 billion bet against Tesla, short sellers suffered paper losses of $1.4 billion on Thursday, erasing 70% of the profits they had logged in 2019, according to S3 Partners, a financial analytics firm. Tesla's shares remain down 10% year to date.
im sure its all a big misunderstanding.

“Why would anyone make a solar roof? How strange. But it just is a thing that should be. So we’re going to make it.”
frustrating; im hearing that the jump from 260-315 was basically predicated on tesla tweaking numbers on a spreadsheet by re-defining some warranty expenses, in so many words.
stock is down like 6% since that tidbit went public and the most frustrating part is i have no idea if its actually a cause for concern or just shorts being shorts because the signal/noise ratio is so utterly out of hand.
something else that jumped out at me from the roth analysis; a pillar of their model is that a saturation point has been reached for domestic tesla sales, and honestly when i read it i was like 'oh shit, heard' but then i sat down and did some number crunching of my own... if my math is right, tesla needs to account for about 1.8% of domestic car sales in order to stay profitable, and thats above and beyond their nascent solar initiative (which i think is going to be a financially significant product within the next 5 years).
in the next 12 months, we will see a truck, a hybrid suv, and the roadster land. i feel like 1.8% is a viable market share target. and thats totally excluding europe/asia sales.
so im gonna stay on this horse but, and im not saying anything new here, i think its going to be a bloody ride for the next year.
They need the cash to remove the solar panels from Walmart roofs cause, well, the company is inept and service kinda wasn’t done so fires and such.
Did they offend Amazon too?
With every tick of the clock the car becomes #metoo. Software doesn’t sell. Sex sells. The Tesla image isn’t sex but rather some kind of doobie smoking odd ball.
The brand is a counter cultural statement and that’s niche. When 12 year old boys think Tesla is cool then I’m long
The Matt Damon Christian Bale movie about Shelby is about to drop and you would benefit enormously from the automotive education if you are going to continue down this path.
Shelby, though dead, still conveys marketable cachet. It wasn’t nuts and bolts. It was sex and winning and groovy 60’s stuff.
Similar 4 wheel appliances will be avail. First is not a satisfactory differentiation.
The problem with Tesla is it has cache but not cachet... and they have no cash. I wrote that. Lol. That’s pretty good. Drops mic
If Elon Musk faked his own death and came back as Matthew McConaughey Tesla might have had a shot.
or maybe a strong women who looks good for her age
real suicide is an option he is obliged to explore with his marketing people if he really cares about his investors
its interesting to me, that i have two circles of friends who 1) think teslas are sexy 2) own teslas and 3) think elon musk is hot af.
first group: tech employee friends
second group: fantastically wealthy + highly intelligent friends
a lot of 12 year olds would call those people influencers.

stock seems emotionally stable at 320+ but i have real misgivings about their truck reveal on the 21st.
this cant possibly be true; any one of will's sputtering broken english rage posts clearly indicates tesla's stock value hasnt grown over 17% since their quarterly earnings report.
biiiiig misunderstanding imo.
that said, i legit think that pickup truck reveal on thursday is going to wipe their gains and then some.
I certainly hope so. I'd like to add to my position but $351 is a pretty rich valuation at this time and the technicals indicate the stock is overbought.
Not sure why you're bearish on the pickup, will be interesting to see the reaction. NOTHING would surprise me as it relates to TSLA the stock.
The real bull case for me surrounds the combo of the model Y and the Shanghai giga factory, along with Tesla's huge lead in autonomous driving data.
