The chick says that Sterling was aware of the fact that she was recording him, making it legal. I haven't seen him dispute that.
Mark Cuban noted that the NBA constitution only allows a team to be taken away from an owner if he is involved in gambling. Owners don't have contracts with vague "good citizen" clauses like players and coaches. But the league is allowed to ban him, or anyone else, from all NBA activities- as they have done. He loved sitting courtside, taking people into the locker room, and generally being a big shot. Without the ability to do that, he has no reason to own the team. The only reason he would hold on to it now is to be a contrarian dick, which is entirely possible.
Kareem Abdul Jabar wrote a good Op-Ed yesterday about how everyone in basketball has known for many years that Silver is a racist asshole and it's ridiculous for everyone to be outraged all of the sudden. The testimony in his court cases was damning.
Unconfirmed reports say that the Clippers, Warriors, Grizzlies, and Thunder, all told Adam Silver that they would refuse to play tonight's games if Donald Sterling was not banned for life.
