Foam party at the Spirit Hangar!
A fire suppression system was accidentally triggered at Spirit Airlines’ maintenance hangar in Detroit on July 4, likely due to a lightning strike nearby. The hangar and five Airbus jets were flooded with corrosive foam, forcing Spirit to remove several aircraft from service for inspection. While no injuries were reported and flights were unaffected, the cleanup and potential damage could cost the airline a pretty penny.

2 short stories-
Spirit Airlines ranked fourth for on time arrivals among U.S. carriers in the DOT’s latest Air Travel Consumer Report covering January through June 2025, at 78.34% on time. Hawaiian led the list, followed by Southwest and Delta, with Spirit ahead of larger rivals like American and JetBlue. The strong showing comes as Spirit faces serious financial pressure, including a fresh bankruptcy filing and a deep restructuring. The airline has been cutting routes and exploring asset sales while working to keep operations reliable.
Context: DOT counts a flight as “on time” if it arrives within 15 minutes of schedule. Rankings are updated monthly.
