The "mostly peaceful protesters" line is another trick used by the left to make any law enforcement response to rioting and looting appear to be heavy-handed.
In fact, the entire term "peaceful protest" has been horribly perverted by the 2020 left. Any protest which doesn't involve someone badly hurt is defined as "peaceful", and any attempt by law enforcement to apprehend criminals at protests is labeled as "fascism" or "suppression of peaceful protest".
It's all such garbage.
Notice there are almost no videos coming out showing actual peaceful protest being disrupted by police or federal agents. That's because almost all of these protests in Portland and Seattle (as well as those in June) have some sort of criminal element causing trouble among those actually protesting peacefully. This also causes mistakes to occur in law enforcement. If a crowd is actually protesting peacefully, and some asshole hurls an object at police, and they go in and grab the guy next to him, that's not the fault of the cops. That's the fault of the violent assholes who engage in these cowardly attacks, and somehow cause the wrong person to be arrested.
Anyway, the following is NOT peaceful protest:
- Throwing ANY objects at citizens or police (including "harmless" objects or liquids)
- Blocking roads without a permit to do so
- Vandalism
- Arson
- Assault of any kind
- Blocking anyone's free movement (or their vehicle's movement) in any way
- Not keeping a safe distance from police or other citizens and shouting in their faces
- Taking over areas of the city and/or buildings they don't own
I have no sympathy for anyone arrested or tear gassed for doing any of the above shit. In reality, this is most of what's happening in Portland and Seattle. This isn't rocket science. Clamp down hard on lawbreakers during protests, no matter how noble you think the "cause" is, and no matter how much you're concerned that it might escalate things. It won't. These aren't Islamic terrorists. Almost all of these people will back down if they think there is a real consequence for the shit they're doing.
