So let me get this straight... you hold hostages in your home for 8 months, and when the military shows up to rescue them, you don't deserve to be shot as part of the rescue operation? Pretty sure that holding hostages during a war puts a very clear target on your back. If you don't want to get shot by the IDF, here's a suggestion: Don't hold Israeli hostages.

Sinwar was the architect of the October 7 attacks. He was killed in a house where he was hiding, which has apparently been out of the battlezone since August 28, due to most of the area having previously been leveled. I guess he took a, "They already struck here, they won't look again" approach.
It was believed Sinwar was the main factor holding back the return of the hostages, as he wanted his own safety guaranteed in exchange, which Israel refused to give. It is now believed that the hostages have a better chance of being freed.
