No other first world country in the world has had anything like this going on either:

-- 250 years of slavery
-- freed without compensation or access to capital, land, education, housing or employment
-- sharecropping system in the south replicating slavery in every way but name for another 100 years
-- blacks denied benefit of Homestead Act where white people got to go grab land super cheap
-- blacks denied benefit of social security for the first few decades because certain types of employment excluded
-- segregation/Jim Crow in both north and south after Civil War
-- campaign of terrorism, over 10,000 lynched and the threat always hanging over the heads of blacks
-- prevented from voting for 100 years after Civil War despite having the right on paper
-- blacks kept out of many unions until after WWII
-- blacks denied benefit of GI bill which vaulted millions of white veterans and their families into comfy middle class existence
-- blacks denied benefit of post-WWII Federal Housing Administration programs which were used to build the suburbs where whites could move into nicer houses on more land at dirt cheap prices (AKA "redlining")

There's no question black communities bear some responsibility for what is happening there, but most of the dysfunction is created by the circumstances created by the racial history of this country. The above has been changed on paper, but it wasn't that long ago, and the combined effect on black communities has NEVER been addressed. No other group in America aside from the Native Americans has ever been decimated the way blacks have been. Some groups have endured tough circumstances and have been treated poorly, yes. But no other group has faced an all-out assault on their very existence the way blacks and Native Americans did.

If you hold someone underwater until they stop breathing, then pull them up and say well I'm not holding you under anymore, better start swimming on your own, what's going to happen to that person?

As for what to do about it, nobody knows. I've heard a lot of suggestions but it will probably require a multifaceted approach to lay a foundation under black communities that will bring them back to some sort of reasonable starting point that will empower them to build their own wealth, families and social structures up. It will also require a change of attitude for a large part of the population. It will be expensive. I'm not sure what it would look like but I know this country is not yet up to the task.

Well, perhaps they should look to their own people who captured and sold them like chattel. Or the Dutch who were for much of this the primary instigators/enablers of the slave trade for decades if not centuries. For that matter, all of western Europe needs to chip in then. Much of the slave trade occurred before this country even existed. It was imported here like everything else. Indentured servitude has been around since recorded time. I guess it has just been human nature, unfortunately. There is plenty of blame to go around. Despite the media chatter to the contrary, this country has made tremendous strides towards equality over the last 60 years. At some point one must simply acknowledge that in a capitalist society, everyone is not going to achieve equal results. There are socialist countries they can go to if that is the lifestyle they seek, but they won't. Our poor are rich by the rest of the world's standards. We have now reached the point that we are discriminating in order to remedy past discrimination. I have heard they are literally going to defund the PD by 50%, shut down the county jail and shut down the municipal court, which sounds like pure insanity. It’s gonna be like the Wild West out there and I expect the city to completely collapse as businesses flee and the tax base evaporates.

I really wish the whole country would pay attention to what’s going on out there cause this is gonna happen in every City in the US if the far left is not stopped.

After the riots endorsed by Pelosi and company there ain’t gonna be much of those cities left. The wealthy and middle class which provide the majority of the cities tax base dollars are gonna flee for the suburbs and the countryside as working remotely becomes the norm.

The Democrats have made the cities unlivable crime-filled hellholes fueled by criminal justice reform, non stop riots, soaring gun violence and the neutering of police departments. It’s all on the Democrats.

And I get it, Antifa is a pretty inconvenient problem for you but they’re not going away anytime soon.

Come on guy, I live in California. The reality is that the terrible leadership in these cities (specifically Portland and Seattle) are caving to the angry mob. Downtown Seattle is basically a ghost town. I lived in the PNW for 6 years, Seattle used to be a truly great/beautiful city.
