Honest to god you had me looking up Poker Bustouts. Completely forgot I saw this documentary until I saw The Cowboy in the description. Gritty counter punch in 2005 to the media hype and fan fury over the poker boom. So that's kinda my take - I forgot.
Both The Hustler & Rounders are art and story telling set amidst a back drop that was new and revealing to the audience. The happy endings are stock in trade. Thats art for the masses and sometimes it works. Losers overcoming adversity gives me hope.

Poker is a simple story. Simpler material for the writer. Koppelman took a big bite with Billions. Far more complex. Two worlds to explore and collide. 12 plus episodes was suitable real estate to tell the story but your asking a lot.

ohhhhhhhhhh so this is basically Entourage.
The show is good but the psychiatrist is tilting . Her importance is so unrealistic it takes away from the show imo.
Was I dreaming or was that poker episode a real thing? Maybe the worst poker related content ever on TV. I don't think I can ever look at any of those characters the same again. I actually liked the he/she but now that's ruined for me.

I will have to watch to see if this somehow rips off the true story of Solomon Bros Chairman John Gutfreund playing Liars Poker for a million dollars no tears. If there is any hint the show is dead to me.
