I'm sure I'll catch the Comey highlights, but the news is just setting up a fail with all the hype given Trump has essentially already admitted he obstructed justice in firing Comey. Or, at least, the White House didn't deny, which is the same as admission. Maybe I'm not aware of what new information can come out, and its considered important because every channel in the world will cover it, forcing all the blue hairs to hear it in person when they turn in for their soap operas, but it just seems set up for a disappointment if you've been paying any attention whatsoever.
It feels like kind of a stalemate. The Republicans are in charge. Most wouldn't hesitate to cut Trump's throat in an instant if Trump's base flips on him, but that isn't be likely happening, thus they'll still have his back. All the chaos is entertaining, but I don't see what it amounts to until Mueller weighs in. It feels like the media hysterics and Dem hopes all hinge on the average Trump supporter flipping on him, which is never happening, or some mid-term miracle. I'm no constitutional scholar, but getting rid of a president seems
to be a political process for the most part. Now, any of his cohorts, they can get fucked, but he can always pardon them. Trying to put historical Watergate thinking on an outlier like Trump has always ended up looking stupid. The media has the power to drive him further insane, but not actually do anything. In Watergate you had a clear crime of burglary, and an overwhelming cover-up which included authorized cash payments out of the White House and many people going to prison. You don't have any of that here.
Oh, you also had a large majority or Democrats in both Houses in 1974. As BCR correctly points out the Republicans would never vote to impeach. And there would be a 0.0% chance you would ever get 67 votes in the Senate to convict.
