Just to clarify only way he does less than a year is if they charge him with a different crime. Problem is, this crime happens to not have steps so it really is this or nothing.
This Class B felony carries a one year minimum. I am also guessing like many states if he gets a year it will be a full year, if he gets a year and a day he might be able to get out early.

Another thing about plea-bargains, some people don't know your first plea bargain is never the sweetest one, it's actually alot of times wiser if you can handle riding it out and doing some more time, to hold and usually the subsequent ones get better to a certain point then they close the door. Now thats when dealing with public pretenders, not so sure if that holds true with high paid attorneys, but as a general rule your first "plea" is usually always the shittiest one.
