Broken clock right twice a day sort of thing but I’m on an unbelievable tear at the minute. From anecdotal evidence I've been picking up by casual browsing of NBA lines and their results, it has seemed to me that totals lines like 215 are pure AIDS for unders, and should be avoided, even if it appears the play is smart on the surface. Pace of play these days (and the 14 second offensive rebound clock) just makes these too difficult to rely upon going under. In fact, I might start hammering overs on these.
Looks like the smart play right now is to find totals greater than 225, and then see which ones have factors aligning properly to be a +EV under pick, and then go with it.
That's what I did with Chicago today (albeit too late for anyone to grab it besides myself), and it worked well. It was my first decisive NBA under win this year. Prior to this, I was 1-3-1, with the sole win being a lucky one due to trash time in the 4th.
Anyway, that's where I'll be focusing for the time being.
On a side note, I saw a lot of reasons to go with over 239 on the Lakers tonight, but stayed away.
I think those may be too much the other way. Totals like 239 don't hit easily as overs unless everything goes "right" with consistent fast scoring. So if I do pick overs, it won't be on totals like those.
It's the same reason I rarely picked unders last year where the total was below 190.
The NBA has turned into a 3pt shooting contest.
