The poker community might soon lose another one of its familiar and warm personalities.
The Simpsons co-creator and poker player Sam Simon has cancer that has spread around his body and could just have months left, he told Howard 100 reporter Jon Leiberman this week.
“I’ve had the greatest life in the world,” Simon said.
However, Simon still sounded optimistic that he could beat it.
Over the years Simon has quietly amassed quite the list of poker accomplishments. He has won three no-limit hold’em tournaments, totaling more than $100,000. Combined with a deep run in the 2011 World Series main event, Simon has collected $344,000 in lifetime earnings. Simon reportedly has a net worth of $400 million.
Simon has also found the time to become an advocate for animals and start a foundation aimed to “saving the lives of dogs to enrich the lives of people.”
The news of Simon’s battle with cancer comes not long after Lakers owner and poker player Jerry Buss passed away from his cancer struggle.

EDIT: Stories like this really reinforce how keeping to a regular check up schedule can save your life. Not sure what Sam's case was like but in the case of someone like Warren Zevon or Ronnie James Dio if they had been getting normal checkups there is a very good chance that they'd still be here today.
