I don't believe he's made much from poker, even to become an average player these days you need to invest some serious time and effort. I just don't see him putting in the time and effort.

I am not hating on the guy. Every guy wants to live his lifestyle. But a lot of it doesnt make much sense.
One really telling moment from the Howard interview was when he said that Tobey Maguire had "40 to 50 mil net worth".
As I said on radio, Tobey is said to have killed those big games, and played in them very frequently. If Tobey was the big winner, and if those games were big enough for Dan to have won 50 mil in 2014, Tobey should have way more than 40-50 mil in total winnings.
But the reality is that the games aren't big enough to win 50 mil in 6 months, especially if you're a good-but-not-great player like Dan is, which is what he seems to be from all accounts I've heard.
You'll also notice that Dan didn't say during the Howard interview that he was running really hot to have won that 50 mil this year, which you'd think he would have if he somehow pulled off the amazing feat of doing so. Instead, he was just treating it like it was no big deal. Dan is a straight shooter about everything else, and he totally would have said something like, "Normally you won't win 50 million in 6 months, but I've been really lucky this year", yet we heard nothing like that. This is likely because Dan doesn't have a memory of being "lucky", since he is actually getting the vast majority of that money from his dad.

I don't think Tobey is playing in all of the same games that Dan is. They spread a variation of these uber high stakes games and you can bet if Tobey was considered really good or is a "nit" then he may not be asked to play in every game.
Dan don't deny being a trust fund baby but he never brings it up much. He has been lucky enough to get several opportunities to make money in life from having money from the start that he didn't earn. He has done a good job of being a generous guy who comes off as an asshole a lot of times that his peers like to be around and other random people like to follow his wild lifestyle.
As far as the interview goes I believe the poker stuff "within reason". It's what I will call "stretched truths" but the rest seems very legit.
Perhaps Dan's 50 mill figure also comes from any pros he gets into games?
If he starts a game up with 100 millionaires, he's either staking or at the very least getting a piece of any poker pro playing.
So maybe in total the pros are up 50 million in the last year....that # could make sense. But I doubt they're playing high enough that the pros + Bilz are up say 300 mill in the last year.
Their is also another big flaw in his story if you think about it like this. He always lends to the fact that the people he plays with, put millions of dollars on the table, and he comes out the big winner. One thing I have a hard time believing about that is, these games are full of EXTREMELY successful celebrities/entrepreneurs/philanthropists etc., who play for ENTERTAINMENT, not for a living. That makes it hard to believe the extremes he explains people lose too, successful people who are seriously wealthy just wouldn't lose like that. Let alone time after time, and year after year.
Obviously over all the years, their may be a story or two where one fool gets waxed for 7 figures quite a bit, but on avg. I find it hard to think these intelligent people, playing for ENTERTAINMENT would get cleaned out to the extent he lends too. I just don't see how people playing for entertainment and not for their living, would raise the stakes to the level he implies, when they are actually getting skinned so frequently and relatively easily.
Also, why wouldn't pros who are not "big names", but just as good not find their way into these games, and run them over. You couldn't possibly make the same money playing the big game at the Bellagio and Aria etc., having to play all the big name pros as you could in these games. So many people would chop off their left finger to play these games for the rest of their life. And be able to do it in relative anonymity.
Love the guys stich, but if even half of what he says is true and has happened it is literally mind-numbing. Such huge successful people allow themselves to get taken so massively. Why would you play with anyone else?
