I was being sarcastic. Marty has deep rooted jealousy of Tine because he will never be as creative writing, or as witty and insightful as Godatine. This makes him angry, angry Marty lashes out.

The thing is, Jewdonk looks at anyone whose fundamentally content/secure as 'smug'. When he gets drunk and starts to accidentally digest what he's become as an adult, everything around him looks creepy and hostile and manipulative. This is why everyone he has any issue with is immediately regarded as 'dark', 'negative', 'creepy', etc. Because thats how it feels to be an outsider looking in at people with families, friends, careers, social safety nets, so on. It must be terrifying for him.

It's called wet brain. When I was at the height of my benders several years ago, paranoia sets in all the time. It's particular acute in the morning when the mind is detoxing and DTs set in. I have told Jewdonk for a year now to switch to wine and set the hard stuff aside. It's ok occasionally to pound back a couple screwdrivers, but to drink a 1/5th a day will lead to psychosis and inevitably cirrhosis.
