LoL there goes my roommate. I just 86'd him, and am changing the locks

What I've gotten from this thread:

1. Posters telling Larry it's not quite as easy to just evict someone, especially when a verbal contract(lol) cannot possibly be proven, & tell him that legal proceeding may be required.

2. Larry responds by calling everybody names then drops the bomb that he's already consulted a lawyer, you know that guy you hire to represent you in a legal case, on the matter & that a judge, you know that guy you go before in legal proceedings, would laugh his roommate out of court, you know that place where legal proceedings take place, while all the time insisting that he's right & the guy has to leave on his whim in just a few days just because it's not even remotely close to a legal matter because he said so.

You can't make this shit up.

i'll admit, I probably did get bad advice from my lawyer friend.


but I did get good advice from someone (the owner of the building).

it was that I need not to worry. There is no squatters rights, and he isn't an official tenant of the building, he's a "long term" guest in my apartment.

that guest is now not welcomed by me or the owner of the building.

that guest now needs to go.

Sorry for the misunderstanding gentleman. He has no rights to stay here, regardless of how long he's been here.

This according to an actual real-estate lawyer who my landlord contacted after I told him of the situation.


Chicago has a "public nuisance" act. It's very broad and it's open to lots of interpertation but its still a thing.

so, all in all, this shit bag roommate is welcomed to try and fight this, but he can't. and i'm sure he's already consulted a lawyer about it, as he tried to do something like this a few weeks ago when construction workers were in our building an hour earlier than expected (he said he was contacting lawyers about the start times).


Also, all in all, you all can go fuck yourselves collectively, once again.

To think, that most of you would put up with a drunk as fuck roommate bc of "squatters" rights.

No Larry, most functional adults in their 30s would not put themselves in a position where they needed to take on a raging alcoholic as a roommate to pay the rent and leave him responsible for a pet they cared for.

you think i let this kid move in knowing he was a drunk?

he moved in and he was completely normal. then our friend died last year. he started becoming un hinged.

a year later and it came to this. it came on fast though. like maybe in the last 2 months he's been like this.

i gave this kid every opportunity to be a better person. I even went as far to stock the fridge with cans of soda, bottles of orange juice and would tell him "drink anything you want out of there. it's all for you" and he wouldn't do it.
