The part of her speech about being afraid for her life during the Capitol riots actually wasn't bad. It was on the dramatic side, and LOL at being scared of the Capitol Police officer looking for her, but the rest was reasonable. She's a very high profile figure of the left, and when a right wing mob had stormed the Capitol, it wasn't unreasonable to be very scared. Had she just given that account of events, and toned down the dramatics somewhat, it would have been totally fine.
However, her combining it with the whole (previously unmentioned) "I'm a sexual assault survivor, so I'm used to not being believed" really makes the entire thing look like attention whoring bullshit. Given the circles she hung out in, and given the fact that she came of age at a time when sexual assault was taken VERY seriously, I find it highly unlikely that she "wasn't believed".
Additionally, I doubt she'd be combining this exaggerated/fabricated sexual assault tale with the fear-of-death story from the Capitol riots, if she were actually all that worried on January 6. Your mind just wouldn't go there. The linking of the two was also really weak. She didn't justify mentioning the sexual assault because both were extremely traumatic events in her life. She said she hadn't come out with her January 6 story because she's "used to not being believed" due to the previous sexual assault experience!

AOC's story is just bizarre for so many reasons:
- She only brought it up in context of "I'm used to nobody believing me", which of course is nonsense. AOC is an incredibly popular politician on the left, and thus has tens of millions of people "believing" her every word for the past 4 years! Clearly she is not someone suffering from her words carrying no weight.
- She threw in the "sexual assault survivor" out of nowhere, after never mentioning it before, and while talking about a subject (the Capitol Riots) which had nothing to do with sexual assault. She wouldn't give any details, and just kept on talking as if that revelation was no big deal.
- Note she said "sexual assault survivor" and not "rape survivor" or "attempted rape survivor". That's a huge distinction. If it were rape, she would have said rape.
- She has always surrounded herself with woke, left-wing types, so I'm not sure who "didn't believe" her. College administrators? They're required by law to take her allegations seriously. Peers? I doubt a single woke college student type would have dismissed her claims of sexual assault if they were even slightly believable.
This just sounds made up or exaggerated, so she could quickly justify why her January 6 story is being told four weeks later. That's why she really didn't want to flesh that part out.
Sexual assault could technically mean just about anything, drunk make out session goes farther than she wants before the guy relents.
