An old hillbilly sounding cracker at poker table went nuts on Trump for 40 minutes. On basically every policy. I guess he's a big boss in the oil industry. He got up and every last person on the table pretty much in unison said, "I can't believe that guy is a Democrat."

I reminded them all that most likely he's not a Democrat either.

Also, to Druff's point about him abandoning "leftists". Maher's anti religion stance and atheism will always override any reliable liberal views. Why do Republicans cry about celebrity's political views being reported on until the second any random celeb says anything remotely Republicanish and then they jump up and say, "See, even Bill Maher is against liberals"?

Judaism may be a religion, but Jewishness can relate to either ethnicity (having a Jewish parent) or religion (following Judaism). And that is the rub. Maher doesn't consider himself "Jewish" in the religious sense, but Jews who believe in the parental foundation of ethnic Jewishness *do* consider him Jewish. And notably, anti-Semites probably *also* consider Maher Jewish because of his parentage.

As for the State of Israel, it was actually founded mostly by secular Jews, who wanted a country for *ethnic* Jews to be able to live *regardless* of whether they followed Judaism because of anti-Semitism in the world against such folks *regardless* of whether they were religious Jews.

That Israel's politics has shifted over the years so dramatically to support more and more of the political agenda of religious conservative Jews in Israel probably is causing the secular leaders of early Israel to be rolling in their graves.
