Honestly, it's kinda bullshit that she's playing victim here.
She's going on about a "smear campaign", but unless the "smears" are false, then she really only has herself to blame.
Her ex-husband is no angel, and I'm sure the guy is a complete asshole, but the bottom line is that Katie had a relationship with a campaign staffer AND a current Congressional staff member of hers, and she can't blame that on her ex.
This apology would have been better if it were short and sweet, apologized for her missteps, and ended there.

This Graham Kelly guy was probably educated and more sophisticated than both of them, and she probably felt he was more on her level. Of course, she was supposedly already banging Graham 6 months before that.
Anyway, despite all the victimhood rhetoric, she was banging two staffers in a short period of time, and you can't do that shit nowadays and stay in Congress, especially after the new rules were put in place last year. These mistakes were her own, and even though her husband blew the whistle vindictively, the bottom line is that she mainly has herself to blame.

Well, the sad thing is that here was someone with ordinary middle class origins who achieved something remarkable but will not be able to harvest the full reward of that accomplishment. Her mom was a nurse, her dad a policeman, and she grew up in Santa Clarita -- a desert-like LA suburb for those modestly ok moneywise...its not like she had a dad who was a doctor, a stay-a-home mom and lived in an affluent beachside community.Quote:

It's not like her husband and right wing blogs released sexual photos of her simply for the sake of humiliating her. These photos were released as part of a greater story that she had a sexual relationship with two staffers in a very short period of time!
She can't keep glossing over this fact. It's nowhere near the same as a private citizen whose boyfriend/husband releases sexual pics of her (which I agree is despicable) or even a female politician who is intimidated/humiliated by photos of her sex life (again, which I agree is despicable).
While vindictively released by her trashy ex-husband, the photos were nevertheless a look into her misbehavior involving one of her campaign workers. They also give some context to the second set of allegations that she also had an affair with a staffer (which is against House rules).
When you're in politics, especially a high profile position like Congress, you give up some of your right to privacy. That's the nature of the beast. While your life doesn't have to be pristine, your violations of the rules and the law is amplified and examined in the public eye. The throuple wouldn't have mattered if it didn't involve a campaign staffer -- one who was still being paid by her campaign as recently as September 2019. The fact that the throuple allegedly ended because she moved on to a new staffer is even more disturbing.
Someone who has spoken out about #MeToo issues on social media should have known better. I'm not saying she's a horrible person, but she made some pretty major mistakes in a short period of time, and just isn't fit to serve in Congress anymore, especially in 2019. This problem is of her own doing, and she should just take responsibility for her mistakes and go away.

Huh? Wouldn't her fight against this for "other women" be more effective as a Congresswoman?
Clearly such a fighter wouldn't resign if she hadn't done anything wrong, or if her transgressions were minor enough to where she would survive an ethics probe.
It's obvious to me that she's resigning because she knows that the ethics probe would have delved into the matter with Graham Kelly, and found that she was directly in violation of the 2018 House rule against relationships with staffers. Add that to the relationship she already acknowledged with the female campaign worker, and she realized she would have been kicked from Congress anyway (or been highly pressured to resign).
So basically she's just resigning before any of that can happen, and playing victim. Not a good look. If you're really the victim, don't resign and prove your innocence.

Maybe her legal team has a plan to sue Daily Mail for publishing "revenge porn," and getting ahead of the story portraying herself as the victim is Step 1 of that plan. I think we sometimes move to fast to attribute ulterior motives to make a good narrative, when the real motive is a lot more banal and less interesting.Quote:
