But they misunderstand the term "media/Hollywood elite".
Being a member of the media doesn't necessarily make you a member of the media elite.
Being involved in the entertainment industry, even if rich, doesn't make you a member of the Hollywood elite.
The term "elite" here does not refer to wealth, but rather these people being in a position of mass influence, and attempting to conspire in large numbers to use that influence to shape politics and elections. It's even worse when they do this under the guise of neutrality. The SNL debate parodies, highly biased pieces which were falsely presented as supposedly making fun of both candidates, are a good example of this.
The rich Hollywood super-liberal isn't even necessarily a member of the Hollywood elite. If I never hear about their politics, and if they do not attempt to insert their politics into their work, then they are not taking advantage of their position. I don't begrudge rich and famous people who happen to have different political views than mine. I begrudge the ones who think their fame gives them a right to shape politics via their influence.
What about Fox News and Breitbart? Are they the media elite? They're definitely large media companies, and they definitely present biased news stories under the guise of being unbiased. However, they aren't the media elite, but rather the media minority. They exist and thrive due to such a dearth of media supporting the right wing point of view. These companies are taking advantage of the backlash against the media elite, but can't really be considered the media elite themselves, since they are breaking from the common media bias.
Adrian Gonzalez of the Dodgers is not in the media nor associated with Hollywood, but he set a great example regarding how to handle controversial political views. Adrian is highly into his Mexican culture, and hates Donald Trump for that reason. At the same time, Adrian Gonzalez is super-rich and famous. When the Dodgers stayed in a Trump hotel in Chicago, Adrian quietly opted out and stayed by himself across the street. He did not tell the media about this. When it leaked out months later, he confirmed that he did this, but simply said it was for "personal reasons", and declined to discuss Trump or anything political. He said that he only wanted to talk about baseball -- the reason we are paying attention to him in the first place.
That's how all celebrities should behave. Unless we are tuning into them specifically to hear about politics (think Rush Limbaugh or Rachel Maddow), they should keep their politics to themselves and not lecture us as if they know better.
The Dixie Chicks, who ruined their careers due to such haughty lecturing, later came out with an album sarcastically entitled, "Shut Up and Sing". The irony is that, while they were attempting to mock their former fans' negative reaction to them, the album title represented what they actually should have done.
