Active shooter in Las Vegas

Nothing legislatively could stop what you are describing. That said, how many of these assault rifles used in these mass shootings were privately built or originally store bought? I'd be willing to bet most were the latter. I also doubt that douchebag from Sunday built all of his guns either. I completely get what you're saying though. I have a lot of friends and associates that build and mill guns and I agree that with the right mind and motivation a lot of this shit is impossible to stop.

I'm not saying a ban on assault weapons is the be all end all answer, but it's something, and something is better than the nothing we continue to do. Fuck... We can't even get background checks through. To me the whole argument that all the assault weapons will end up in the hands of bad guys and not the good guys is a stupid argument considering no one walks around with an AR15 waiting to fight off bad guys with AR15's. I don't hear of many home invasions using assault rifles either.

He had cameras set up, he knew how to fire said riffles, he had 100k to wire, who the fuck is this guy? I mean obviously he had some kind of training in riffles, you dont just wake up and know how to fire a fully automatic riffle without the riffles jamming.

You don't just go to your backyard to learn how to shoot a fully automatic riffle. I know most you have never fired a fully auto, but that shit isn't like shooting a pellet gun, i ahem have never had the privilege, since those are illegal, my cousin is in the army and tells me that its not a walk in the park.

Exactly. He may have been self taught but he had to practice somewhere firing these guns. Unless he has some big piece of land somewhere, he would have gone to a range in which there would be a record. If it is a local shooting range, I doubt they are going to come forward with this info though so probably will take some time to track down.

I bet all the legal shooting ranges in Vegas are a little worried now. They have always been a place that drunk tourists go to to let off steam with guns not available in the states they live. If one of them gets connected to the shooter, i could see all kinds of regulations being put in on these facilities. More likely though he found a place to fire these guns closer to his home 90 miles away from Vegas

I am all for banning assault rifles as they serve no real purpose other than for people to blow off some steam shooting targets or killing a lot of people. However, I do think the douche shooter though is exactly the type that would go to extreme lengths to build the kind of guns that he wanted. Or simply find another way to kill as many people (for example explosives). He obviously had the financial resources to get it done. Buying the guns from the store was simply an easier option.

Also, with technology like 3d Printing, building weapons that can cause a ton of destruction is only going to get easier as we move forward.

When a guy actually puts explosives in his shoes and it's discovered that such a tactic could actually bring down a plane, then yes, something has to be done to prevent it.

The weapons matter is a lot more complicated.

Being asked to take off your shoes at the airport is a minor inconvenience, but doesn't infringe upon any Constitutional rights.

Enacting gun control measures are a different story, as this country has been highly sensitive to such measures since its founding.

I'm not saying that high-powered weaponry should be available to average citizens here. I do feel that should be revisited, and perhaps some steps should be taken in order to restrict or limit such ownership.

However, to insist that this is due to racism is just engaging in cheap identity politics, and such blatant jumping the gun to apply such labels is what led to the election of a President whose appeal you can't seem to understand.

The other issue is that it's a difference between ideological terrorism and psychotic mass murder.

It should be obvious to you that random white spree killers do not have any kind of ideology, and they represent a staggeringly small percentage of the white male population. Muslim terrorists not only have an ideology, but there are a large number of them who exist with an even larger number of supporters. So it's a lot scarier to see foreign members of an international terror network trying to bring our planes down than it is to see the occasional white psycho shooting everywhere.

With the terrorist, when we catch one, we know there might be another one right behind him trying another form of the same thing.

With the white psycho, we know that his death will mean the end of the threat.

The truth is that any psycho who wants to kill a large number of people in a big crowd can do so, and it's very hard to prevent.

Remember that crazy woman who drove her car onto a sidewalk in Vegas and ran people down? She was a total nutcase and barely understood what she was doing, but someone more calculated and determined to murder could have caused a much higher death toll.

I agree with you that assault rifles should probably be banned, but yeah, this guy already showed he had the capability to modify the rifles he did have, so banning their sale wasn't necessarily going to stop this anyway.

I also wonder if this dude cleaned up his trail prior to committing the crime, given how much effort he put into setting the whole thing up.

Like, you'd picture he left a computer behind with all kinds of usable data, but I'm pretty sure he knew his trip to Mandalay Bay was going to end with him dead, so he probably destroyed all evidence he thought could piece things together (unless he wanted it to be found).

This isn't someone who abruptly snapped, or whose plans were interrupted mid-stream. He was fully aware that he would be caught and killed, and was probably all ready to pull the trigger on himself before anyone got inside.

I'm starting to think that we may never figure out a motive. Perhaps something just went off in this guy's brain at some point that he wanted to kill a whole lot of people and then off himself. Psychos aren't usually very rational.

I still find it quite hard to believe that this guy was radicalized by ISIS. He was 64 years old and supposedly wealthy, with no known political or religious affiliation. White Americans who get radicalized like that tend to be young and directionless.

There are many places for him to train within a mile or two of his house. I also see at least one person shooting full rock and roll every week sometimes every day of the week. I drive up to Indian Springs a couple of times a week from Vegas for work. In my neighbor over 65% is AirForce, Metro/FBI/CIA for at least one in the neighborhood. Around here you can just go up and shoot on BLM land and don't even need a range. I was out with some friends a few months ago showing a M2 off we also had a M16A2 w/M203 attached we were screwing around. And "accidentally" set off a very large amount of Tannerite contact explosive, right as BLM was going by he didn't even blink an eye. Other than the shaking of his truck as it hurt stuff we didn't intend to. I know a couple of guys that live in SoCal that keep their guns at a safe keeping facility here because they aren't legal there and go shoot out on BLM land.

I think that is why he had so many rifles just switch it if out of ammo/malfunction etc.

I did learn how to shoot many auto's in my back yard far before I could drive most before 13-14. I was raised by Grandparents and my Grandfather and I regularly would shoot a lot of stuff with the M2. What kinda floors me is that he didn't go get a M2(or a M16 with a 40MM grenade launcher) he Obv had the money to do it. Also he would have passed background for those just would have taken more time.

The only thing I really see here is that the BumpStock was used with a bipod and I know those can be troublesome at times. I could get someone from no experience to knocking stuff off at 400-600M easily in less than a day.

Living in Vegas if I wanted to see someone in a lane or on a range with full auto it is an every hour of every day thing during business hours here.

Im all for individual states doing what they want regarding assault riffles, if the citizens of Nevada want to ban all guns and they turn out to vote in favor of banning all guns in Nevada i won't have an issue with that.

I am receiving some inside information regarding Stephen Paddock's video poker habits.

Reportedly he was not a video poker fish, but was an advantage player who ran a lot of action on multi-line video poker (such as 100-play machines).

Supposedly he was one of the more prolific video poker players in Nevada, especially in the Reno area, and had a deep bankroll to withstand the big swings. He was usually alone and was not part of any advantage play team.

I will post more if I'm given permission to reveal more details. I am also trying to ascertain the reliability of this information.

That is true about the AR but it that enough reason to not ban assault rifles. There are plenty of alternatives for hunting.

Benzos usually only make people violent/suicidal when they are coming off them or when their tolerance gets to the point they simply dont work anymore.

NO FING WAY! I work with the teams a few times a month on various things and there is NO WAY if he was wanting to do a lot of damage SO many more options to him and that is with him being alone.

I never said he had "SO" many options. I said he would figure out another way. Anders had limited options compared to Vegas douche and still killed more people. Smart psychopaths will figure out a way to do the maximum amount of damage possible with the resources they have. Typically hunters don't want to pluck out a shit load of bullets out of the game they just killed. I'm sure it's been used in hunts before but has to be rare. I live in Michigan which is a big hunting state and have never heard of someone using that kind of weapon on a hunt before.
