Sounds like something the Dodgers would do.

Another masterful game by a Dodgers starter -- this time Snell against the Phillies for 7. 0 runs, 2 hits, 2 walks, 12 K.
Time to see if the bullpen blows the 3-0 lead. If they do, I expect riots in and around Dodger Stadium.
i need so many runs for this dodger over
i literally won frst 5 yesterday and then they pulled ohtani in a no hitter lose like this might curse them forever
Lolz, Luzardo was still in during the 8th inning, and Joe Davis was saying how Luzardo had "settled in" and was getting everyone out despite giving up 3 early runs.
Within like 2 seconds, Ohtani smacked a home run to make it 4-0 (#51).
It's almost like Ohtani heard the boradcast.
Normally a 4th run to lead going in the 9th is inconsequential, but for the Dodgers nowadays that's huge.
Ohtani as closer is gonna be mega.
The savior that Mookie was at short.
I could be a fake Dodger fan for that similar to Druff’s fake democrats

Wish there was an extra week of games. We might catch them.
Game 1 Yamamoto
Game 2 Snell
Ohtani comes out of bullpen game 1 and game 2. Ohtani has stated on his own recently that he’s thinking about the outfield. Of course this is his decision not Friedman’s. It appears he’s made it. Ohtani is about to take a run at GOAT by carrying the aging Dodgers and their fail roster on his back. This is going to be epic. Earth has not witnessed anything like this.
Pray you don’t need a game 3. If Ohtani didn’t pitch relief I guess he starts. Else you flip a coin with Glasnow & Sheehan
Which is to say you may not see Kershaw after Friday. He’s not starting and he sure isn’t coming out of the pen.
That Fraudman failed to approach the MLB before this point to seek to amend the Ohtani rules to include the bullpen contingency is so very Andrew Friedman.
You just spent $700m. Shohei is your most valuable asset and you gave this no thought. Playoffs just aren’t Fraudman’s strong suit.
:wat
Kershaw's entire point of playing in 2025 was to actually be part of a postseason where the Dodgers win it all.
Had he been healthy enough to pitch last postseason and done so with okayish results, he'd have hung it up last year and gone out on top.
The way it ended for him in 2024 felt unnatural and empty, so he gave it one more shot.
Kershaw came out of the bullpen multiple times in past postseasons. He very well might again. He just wants to be useful in some way. I agree they won't be using him for trash time, though.
Trust me, he already had this conversation with Friedman at the beginning of the season. This announcement was long planned, hence the Kershaw 3000 K bobblehead taking place the day after he makes his final regular season start. Do you think that's a coincidence?
If it were announced the Dodgers intended to use Kershaw out of the pen in meaningful spots LAD would riot. They are already booing the pen.
Besides why would you jeopardize the Kershaw legacy with another blowup. It would cement the post season narrative for generations.
Reality distortion sir on the part of you and Kershaw.
Is it true that the Asians are replacing the Latinos in Dodgers stadium? Phillies broadcasters had many fresh takes about the ravine. They obsessed about parking and the way parking transitioned into the park too. Fun
There is an increase in Asians, especially on the nights Yamamoto pitches, but the dominant race is still Hispanic.
Ben and I accidentally went on Mexican Heritage Night one time, and we were in the minority more than I had ever seen, even in the good seats which I buy.
The lousy seats tend to be filled with the gangbanger types, whereas the better-but-not-dugout seats (especially the area where I sit) are generally a mixture of middle and upper-middle class whites and Mexicans, now with some Asians as well. The dugout seats (which I don't like anyway because the foul fence) are almost all white people. Asians are very big on value and they don't like to sit there, either. I actually find I have a lot in common with Asians in that way, as I also generally have an obsession with value, which is different than just being cheap.
It is funny seeing the Asians (presumably the Japanese ones) pulling out their phone to record every Ohtani at bat.
Regarding Kershaw, it might be hard to justify squeezing him in as a starter in a short series.
One issue where the Dodgers have been great lately has been starting pitching. Not only has Yamamoto been very good all year (especially recently), but Glasnow and Snell have gotten it together, and Ohtani seems to have shaken the rust off, as well. Where does Kershaw fit in, if it's a short series?
You said they may not want to use him out of the bullpen, but I disagree. Kershaw has been decent this year when healthy, he's pitched out of the bullpen before during the postseason, and the team's real need is bullpen help. Could he blow up in a bullpen appearance? Yes. But remember what happened in 2023 when he started. The game was over in the first inning. It might be better for Kershaw to direct all of his energy into a good bullpen performance, and his lack of starting can be explained away as a combination of his age and the glut of good starters the team already has. If he does quality work out of the bullpen -- the one factor of the team scaring fans the most -- he will be a hero anyway.
Someone just dumped their front row loge tickets between home and 3B for $382 each.
They haven't sold yet. This is slightly out of the zone where you usually get the best deals (usually it's 6-24 hours before game time), but it's far better value than anything else. Worst seats in the house still going for $184.
I can't bring myself to spend $764 for two regular season tickets, plus hassle with the Friday traffic. But I'll keep checking just in case someone panic-sells for $200 each or something. Ben wasn't born yet when Kershaw started pitching. The game is less meaningful to him.
lol wow: obv betting under 9 total
YRFI’s 11 of 13 today.
I’m a horrible human being but I’m consistent. That counts for a lot
Well, 8th in a row for the Injuns.
Sawks won, Astros lost, so that puts the Injuns 1.5 behind both, 2.5 behind Seattle, and 3.5 behind the Yankees.
This is doable. You just need 1 to fall behind.
Kershaw gave up a leadoff HR, had to get past a botched double play ball by Kike Hernandez, and generally didn't have good command.
He still got through 4 1/3 and gave up 2 R. His final batter was Devers, whom he struck out. Clearly Roberts was looking to pull him after a high note, so that was it.
Interestingly, none of the Giants players were warm to him. None even cracked a smile. I'm surprised they couldn't get past the rivalry to give him some props. Their season is pretty much over, anyway.
I had to sign up for Apple TV to watch this. Annoying,
The Apple TV+ stats are so annoying.
Meaningless shit, and often the stats are not even correct, as they don't take into account various factors.
Kershaw’s wife and all the towheaded kids. It’s something from a different era. Norman Rockwell stuff
A 5th kid is coming either at the end of this year or the beginning of next year.
I see Kershaw mostly disappearing from baseball, and raising the family with his wife. As I said, maybe he appears for the occasional guest broadcast or alumni game.
Would be a nice ending for him if Dodgers can win the World Series this year, and he can be at least a small part of it. Starting pitching has been on point lately. Offense has mostly been good. If they can fix the bullpen, they might have something. But we're not too far removed from those two awful Phillies losses, so who knows?
Also, Teoscar has become a catastrophe in the outfield.
Like Gisele Bundchen and Brady, Ellen wanted Clayton to retire. Unlike Brady, Clayton listened. He isn’t gonna be in a booth nightly or have a whistle hanging around his neck in Cleveland.
Kershaw is gonna grab the first jet outta LA and that will be that. It’s impossible to not admire that.
Kershaw just loved the game. Not all players do. Many don’t. He is at peace with the whole World Series and playoff thing.
I’m a little emotional. Those were a lotta years. Makes me feel old.
i will take that gay push fuck that ohtani homer like just chill dude
shes gonna outlive all of us and is trying to sell me on the giant skeleton dj at lowes im not out but thats alot
Hershiser is Christian, but I don't recall him being super religious.
The Dodgers did have a mid-90s contingent of vocal Christian players in Brett Butler, Todd Worrell, and a few others. This was said to have disrupted team chemistry, as those not part of the Christian cool kid group were ostracized and not treated very well. I think Mike Piazza and Eric Karros were exempted from this because they were the big hitting stars, but lesser players reported an unfriendly clubhouse environment.
Kershaw is a good-hearted, softspoken guy who is probably OCD and has a temper. As long as you stay away from him after he has a bad start, and as long as you don't ruin his routine, he's going to be kind and down-to-earth around you, even if you're a nobody. He's not the type to form cliques which belittle other players, like those '90s Dodgers Christians.
He did get the Dodgers to keep AJ Ellis for several years, even though Ellis couldn't hit a lick, because Ellis was his church buddy. He made Ellis his personal catcher, and the Dodgers just tolerated it, even though the offense would have been better using whoever was the main catcher at the time. Finally they released Ellis in 2016 when his OPS was around .500, but even that took a lot of gentle convincing to make happen.
Another unusual thing about Kershaw is that, despite being Christian, he's not right wing. This differs from guys like Blake Treinen (very religious but also very right wing) and Max Muncy (semi-religious and somewhat right wing). Kershaw is a centrist. He didn't quite know what to make of all the BLM stuff which overtook baseball in 2020-21. He naively thought it was about making sure black people were treated equally, and gave it some light support. He also is fairly supportive of the LGBT stuff, which is fairly unusual for a religious Christian, only asking the Dodgers if they could have a Christian faith night if they were going to have that LGBT night (which they did).
One of the more unfortunate baseball Christians in recent years was Ben Zobrist, who of course wasn't a Dodger, but made the news in 2021 regarding his tumultuous marriage. Unlike most baseball players, Zobrist was faithful to his wife, dutifully keeping his hands off other women while on the road, while married teammates would bang anything that moved. That's why Zobrist was shocked when he learned that his wife was banging their pastor whenever he was on the road. Looking at his wife's instagram page, she was almost a caricature of the "repressed Christian girl looking to sin" trope. She wore provocative-looking outfits and just didn't seem like the type of woman who would be happy playing the good Christian housewife role with her husband frequently on the road. Laughably he got back together with her anyway, but of course that didn't work out. He claimed in divorce filings that she pressured him to play in 2021 when he really wanted to retire, presumably so she could keep banging the pastor behind his back. People were surprised when a picture of the pastor was posted to the internet, as they expected a young, handsome, charismatic guy, and instead he looked like a middle-aged dork. He must have had a really good personality.
1.5 behind Detroit with 3 in Cleveland this week. Never saw myself on stubhub for September tickets this year. Haven’t made a dollar on this run betting. Never saw it coming.’
Daylen Lile was a fringe prospect at best, but got a shot because the Nationals suck, and he had a very nice year.
In 303 AB, he hit .290 with 7 HR, and stole 8 bases. He had an .818 OPS. He would have had some shot at Rookie of the Year had he played a full season and kept up those numbers.
Anyway, look at this ugly injury:
https://x.com/TalkinBaseball_/status...31214732501481
Somehow he wasn't seriously injured. He sat out Monday's game, but might actually play this week, despite the Nationals being long out of the playoff picture.
It's possible that this year was an anomaly, and Lile will come back and suck in 2026, as many fringe prospects do following a surprisingly good year. MLB is a hard sport to maintain consistency. He is only 22, so he still has some time to further develop. His youth probably saved him in that wall collision, as an older player probably at least comes away with a sprain.
Detroit Cleveland reminds me why October is my favorite sports month. Sneak peak at playoff baseball
San,
I hope you stayed up and aren't missing this. Ohtani pitches 6 scoreless innings and the pen has turned a 4-0 lead to 4-3 in less than 1 inning.
Now Tanner Scott coming for the 9th.
Lord help us.
Tanner Scott & Mark Prior. You gonna book a cruise for early October?
