Totally agree. I just think this is a Pick em not one where Aldo is the dog. If you look at Conor's record who has he beaten? Really no one except a Chad Mendes on short notice. He beat Mac Holloway a few years back after Holloway came off a loss to Bermudez. Since then Halloway has looked like a completely different fighter. Aldo has beaten them all. I also think that Conor may suffer from a lot of what Rousey did in terms of the media blitz. He just did the Ultimate Fighter, he is basically the most famous person in Ireland and he no doubt has a shitload of commitments from sponsorships to interviews. He has gotten the UFC champion media/workload schedule without being the champion. Aldo has not.
I may hedge a little with a Mcgregor by decision bet (the judges have fucked me before with GSP/Hendricks) but really going to fire hard on Aldo.
I hear you regarding Conor hype. But I also saw him finish Mendes after Aldo carried him to a decision.
Id pick Conor by KO because the emotional payout of an Aldo win is more than enough to cover any financial loss here.
The scenario I want to invest in is the Mendes rematch; I think Mendes will come in at like +285 or better opening line and that's a possible truck of money if he has a good, solid camp this time.
If you look at Mendes recent fights with Aldo and then Conor on short notice, he looks like a completely different fighter in the latter of the two. He is much more explosive looking in the Aldo fight than in the Conor fight. He gets gassed in the second round in the Conor fight but doesn’t look comparably gassed in all of the Aldo fight. If Mendes has a full camp I think he grounds and pounds the shit out of Conor. In fact, he was pretty much dominating the Conor fight and taking down Conor at will.
Unlike the Mendes fight, Aldo is not going to worry about Conor trying to take him down. Aldo has arguably the best take down defense of any UFC fighter and takedowns isn’t something Conor does anyway. However, because Conor’s takedown defense is so awful I wouldn’t be surprised if Aldo tries to submit him just to make a point. If Aldo doesn’t take him down then it is Aldo’s striking versus Conor’s striking.
I just don’t see anywhere Conor has the advantage.
My prediction is that Aldo will win and then Conor will have a rematch with Mendes (like you say above) who will then destroy him. Maybe they even give Conor a shot at Frankie who would also annihilate Conor. It is all a hype train imo and Conor was lucky to keep the hype train going with an unprepared Mendes.
I also like that the Euros (fan money) are betting on Conor which is inflating the line and giving him a higher value than he should have. It will be interesting to see what the line is at right before the fight. I could see some whales coming in and putting big money on Aldo driving Conor closer to even money. But it could also go the other way with all the last minute Irish fan money.
Been adding some tickets every few days depending on the line., At 12k now total now but will do min 20 and maybe 30 if line good.
Aldo is only 2 years older then McGregor but the only fear is if his injuries have aged him. The guy hasn't lost in what will be over 10 years at the time he fights McGregor.
Jose hasn't been a quick finisher in his UFC reign though. The only fight that didn't at least make it to the fourth round was the first fight he had vs. Mendes with that last second KO in the first round.
Mendes was well improved the second time they fought but we shouldn't read a lot into that alone. Aldo seems to be fighting more of the conservative pick 'em apart but don't take many risks to put 'em away early type of approach.
A lot of champions have made a living doing this (GSP was #1 at that).
Not that I want to compare Connor McGregor to Ronda Rousey because they are different of course but if he watched her lose very closely he could learn not to go in so hard against a very good defensive fighter who will be well prepared for all of that. I'm not saying Holm is all defensive either in her career but it was the best approach in that fight vs. Rousey.
Saw a piece maybe a couple months back with Rousey and she did kind of reference a family and maybe taking a break for movies. I highly doubt that severe beating she took was worthy compensation for an extended vacation into 'Hollywood'. Her face is apparently beat up, and a mess. If it was rigged (not saying I believe it) and Holm knew, maybe she was supposed to beat her, and out of disrespect for that whole idea beat her to an oblivion. Plus Rousey made it pretty well known she wanted to do hollywood next, and apparently her face was beat to a pulp and needs plastic surgery. interesting story though given all the timing.
Not necessarily an ideal outcome, for someone trying to lose a staged fight and then go do 'hollywood movies'..
Connor McGregor seems like a huge douchebag on The Ultimate Fighter show.
Jose Aldo is a bad dude and doubt COnnor has a huge edge should be a great fight taking Aldo here after a long break does seem sharp given the odds. Best of luck to you with that cmoney, McGregor does seem to be at that plateau where maybe the only way to go, is down at least for a bit just when.
Cowboy Cerrone even tho a bit heavier would be an intriguing fight stylistically for either of these two, doubt that could happen though.
This has been done in the wrestling industry for years. A guy or girl is going to take a break or go away, or has an injury that they have to tend to, whatever the reasons are, and they’re a champion – you take the championship off of them.
Yes because its not like EVERY single match in wrestling is scripted.... If UFC was caught doing this it would be the end of a multi billion dollar business.
Anyways not even going to bother arguing how Ronda losing hurts the UFC financially (and herself).
How is this even reported as news? Nobody is gonna take this WWE dropout seriously except for Garett.
She got her face beat in. No chance in hell she stood there and took that kind of beating in a fight she was "throwing." She'd have just gone down, pretended to be knocked out, and called it a day.
People are desperately trying to look for a reason why unbeatable Rousey got the hell beaten out of her. When the reality is that it's because she wasn't as good as everyone thought she was.
Taz is retarded. I like Taz, but he needs a hook to get his podcast out there, so.... Taz says retarded stuff.
About McGredor-Mendes, don't forget Conor tore his ACL 14 weeks before the fight.

$100 on Diego at +300 because betting on Diego to get his hand raised after losing a fight is confirmed profitable.
You really cant lose with betting on Diego; if he wins, you get paid off handsomely. If he loses, its worth the money to watch him try to figure out what he did to earn the disfavor of the Solar Gods.
UFC juding/scoring is broken. It's broken, because it was built off a boxing model. That's wrong. Both sports are based on fighting, but the sports are different. It would be like judging a baseball and basketball game the same, because they both are based on a ball. Those sports have their own scoring model.
IMO, UFC should be based on who was closest to ending the other guy. All the minor strikes/take downs shouldn't matter when compared to a single punch that almost put the opponent out. Again, all the minor strikes/take downs shouldn't matter when compared to a very close submission that failed.
When fights are judged this way fighters will stop going for the kill and learn to just try to jab jab jab. UFC is supposed to be who is the better fighter. If you got into a bar fight with this guy who would win? The minor strikes/take downs don't matter in that scenario. The time is limited so it should be based on who was closest to finishing the other guy IMO.
Also, Kelvin Gastelum punching Neil Magny is clearly a form of racism.
Perhaps, the government should regulate it.
Was Jose Aldo scared to juice therefore coming off a weak ped cycle. Was he shielded from testers in Brazil therefore juiced to the gills?
The fight will be decided on if Aldo got in a good cycle. If Jose Aldo is clean he will probably get his ass kicked big time. His nuts have been shut down for years, imo.
I'll be interested to see if there's tells in the weigh ins. Lot's of upsets coming with the new testing imo. Lot's of juicing in Albuquerque.
What happens when you come off a cycle? This dude tells it like it is. Important info.

This is what happened to Cain he stayed clean and Werdum was way up in the Mexican hills getting in a cycle imo.

Tldw: Bones liked his pot and his booze, (100% clean now) never trained in the off-season, talks about the accident, only denies the big wad of cash part of the story, Lorenzo is cool but kinda fuck Dana, praise God and religion and family, singled out Ronda as someone who was always texting him and being real cool to him when he was down, and he's just gonna crush the fuck out if everyone now that he's back. Also, fuck Nevada's commission.
Jones: "I was addicted to marijuana"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUPHlAbAf2I
He didn't address one of the most important questions from the scene of the accident which is about the condoms they found.
Why is a guy who has been engaged for years carrying around a bunch of condoms? Is everything ok at home?

2 actually. One to badguy he is 19 and a baby he is 1, obviously not badguys as he is now in a loving, committed relationship with Tammy Lee Miller (of TML's) dance school here in Pittsburgh.
Don't know if anyone caught Bendo vs Masvidal on Fightnight #79 but that was a great fight.
Iteresting gambling story coming out of the last fight night, from Dave Meltzer.
---------
The day before the show, there was a sudden odds shift in the Tae Hyun Bang vs. Leo Kuntz prelim, going from Bang being a 2-to-1 favorite to Kuntz being as much as a 4-to-1 favorite. What appears to have happened is there were rumors that broke over Bang being injured, which caused a lot of late betting to go against him. There were people speculating the turnaround was due to the fight being fixed, but it turned out to be the most non-fixed fight possible. It was a wild back-and-forth fight. A fixed fight means the loser is going to go down on the first solid punch that lands, not a three-round war that ends with nobody having a definite edge and going to a split decision.
The obscure fight ended up making mainstream news in Las Vegas, because the odds swing led to substantial money being bet on Kuntz from people who thought the huge odds change indicated either insider knowledge or even a lot of speculation of a fix. 62 percent of the money bet on the card at the William Hill agency was on this specific fight, and 79 percent of the money was on Kuntz. With Bang winning, the establishments were big winners.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that one property said the amount bet on this fight was about the same as a typical NFL game and noted there was a six-figure bet placed on Kuntz.
UFC president Dana White says Ronda Rousey will get a rematch with defending bantamweight champion Holly Holm.
