just a wee flu
A Texas hospital says a patient who was a healthy young man died from coronavirus after attending a “COVID” party.
The unidentified 30-year-old man died at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, according to the hospital’s top doctor, Jane Appleby.

I know someone with the following situation from earlier this year:
- 29 years old
- Was the "sickest ever" and had a "terrible dry cough which was painful" in mid-January. Completely lost sense of smell and taste.
- Doctors were baffled. Was assumed to be pneumonia at the time.
- Got sick again in March with something similar, again with a complete loss of smell and taste. Did not take a COVID-19 test due to lack of availability at the time.
- Took antibody test for COVID-19 in May. Came back negative.
- Claims, "I had never lost smell and taste in my life before that."
- Does not seem to have any lasting effects from either illness.
:wtf2
Possible conclusions?
Antibody test sucks?
Caught COVID-19 twice, including before it was known to be in the US?
Never really got better the first time, so a second round of symptoms hit 2 months later?
Antibodies vanish quickly after getting better?
Weird.
I think three possibilities
1. The early west coast version was the Chinese version, the later version was from Europe and had heavily
mutated. Maybe not providing friend immunity, similar to the flu, strep or a million other cold viruses.
2. If the January version was bad enough, friend may have only began to develop anti-bodies in March and didn’t have enough to fight off second round of the virus.
3. There are lots of flu strains where it is common to lose sense of smell and taste (true of most upper respiratory viruses), maybe friend ran bad and got both Flu and COVID.
I am shocked, SHOCKED I tell you!
We can all agree that trotting out Betsy DeVos to make the case for reopening schools is an especially retarded move.
Florida is going through its big wave of COVID right now, no doubt. However, I love the media gleefully exclaiming, "HIGHEST SINGLE NEW CASE TOTAL FOR ANY STATE EVERRRRRRRR!!!!111", totally ignoring the fact that New York was very likely higher in April, and they just didn't have the testing ability to reach those higher numbers.
LOL comparing Florida in July to New York in April, and asserting that Florida is worse.
The entire situation in New York was somewhat downplayed even at the time, because the media didn't want to criticize Cuomo.
I have to make a decision what to do about sending Ben back to school.
The school released its plan last week, which is similar to most other schools in California. Basically you have the choice of 3 options:
1) Continued distance learning like we did between March and June, where the kid doesn't go in, has class via Zoom, and the parents work with the kid
2) 2.5 hours of school each day, in two different flights, where the parents also work at home with the kid (but less)
3) Full-on homeschool where the parent basically directs the whole thing, and there is no interaction on Zoom or in person
I'm strongly leaning toward #1 right now, despite really wanting Benjamin back in school, because I feel California is going to be in its "bad coronavirus phase" for the next few months. After it cools down, I might switch him to option #2.
This whole thing isn't healthy for the kids, but it just feels foolish bringing him back to school right when California is hitting its peak.
I’d agree with that direction. I don’t know when he starts, but i really don’t believe the option 2 will even be a real option if it’s a month or six weeks away.
We didn’t know if it was just increased testing or if deaths were going to go up until this week. Now this week the jury came in and we are probably going to end up with 2000 more deaths by end of the week today when the totals come in. It’s going back up in areas hit moderately hard like PA and Ohio who relaxed. I don’t really agree with the idea each area will be hit hard once. That will be true at some point, and I don’t expect NYC or Boston to be at its worst again, but if you relax at all, it’s going back up. Even the 10x testing number still only means 10-12% of the country had it already, a little over 20 in the worst places. I was shocked at how long the lag took, but it’s heading the wrong way again and will be at April levels as a nation by the time weather is coming.
I expect to be over 1000 deaths a day again next week. Hope not, but we flirted with it a few days this week and were up 300 deaths almost every day for the week on average.
I think any talk of school and fall sports is nonsensical at this point. When people start talking sports I just kind of laugh and say it isn’t happening. Any event that is a few months away I laugh at right now.
It seems hard to believe we are back here, but if you sent him, he’s just coming home with it and that renders all your caution moot. If we continue to rise like this, we are going to be at April again by the time school starts. The idea anywhere is going to be sending kids outside the Dakotas and Wyoming feels silly. We made a bet on summer helping and it appears a losing bet. If you send him, you might as well go about life as normal. I can’t imagine trying to keep masks on hundreds of kids. Impossible. We are done until a vaccine. You might qualify for an education degree by the time this is done. You can open up a conservative charter school where you don’t feel the kids are indoctrinated.

Makes sense when you think about it.
Just came back from a full day fishing off the beautiful wsters of LI. Boat full of 50 ppl and less than a handful with masks. Like only 2 Asians wore a mask.
I got a nice batch of wings at a outdoor patio restaurant yesterday. No masks, nobody planning their funeral either. Dr. Fauci wants to lock everyone down for 2 years. After 8 months on a planet of nearly 8 Billion we have 500,000 dead. I always thought a pandemic was like when 100 Million died. The left literally loves this virus since it helps their political chances in November so they can get Dementia Joe in there and basically shove him in a closet and run things.
LOL, she makes $87,000 a year as Mayor. I was making that at age 25. Meanwhile the City Manager makes $315,000. We all know who calls the shots in Phoenix, and it ain't her. LOL at being dumped while getting pregnant, that is about a bad of a beat as you can get.
and democrats live in fantasy land, and if you just believe you are a different gender you are, and only white people are racist, all cops are bad and socialism is a good idea, and if you don't want to have sex with trannys you're a transphobe, Islam is a good thing, i could go on and on we all know who the party of retards is
Not everyone on the planet has the option of being at Stay at Home Dad. Stick to your lane and vegetate in your boxers watching Price is Right while your wife goes out and works. Here's an idea, cancel your account here and ask her to register, it will vastly improve the forum content.
Now go get your fucking shine box.
