He has beaten himself in this election, which is pretty impressive considering that this was an election where Hillary would have beaten herself against any reasonable Republican candidate.
I will say that there is often a weird "jump" in the polls for the underdog candidate around this time of year, but it always fades.
I remember first noticing it with Bush Sr. against Bill Clinton in 1992. I was dumb enough then to believe that Bush was going to somehow come back and win.
I saw it with Dole against Clinton.
I didn't see it with Gore/GW Bush because that one was so close the whole way, nor did I see it with Kerry/GW Bush, because again that one was already very close in September.
I didn't see it with McCain/Obama, but probably would have if not for the banking/housing crisis of 2008.
I did see it with Romney versus Obama.
We might be seeing the same now with Trump.
Something does seem to be wrong with Hillary. At first I felt the "Hillary is sick" stuff was just a manufactured anti-Hillary issue, but now we're starting to see some real evidence that she's not completely well.
Hillary has wanted to be President her whole life. That's been her dream. She stayed in a sham marriage just to achieve that dream.
Now she's inches away from the goal line, and there's no way a go-getter like Hillary is going to back off for the good of the country, even if she knows she's very sick and will die in office.
Hillary will continue running for President unless she's actually dead and buried -- and even then will be running for it.
Let's say Hillary knows she has less than a year to live. I'm not saying it's true, but let's just say hypothetically that she knows this. Zero point zero chance she would drop out of the race. She would conceal it, win, achieve her dream of being President, and rule for as long as she physically could. Hillary doesn't give a shit about the good of the country. Hillary cares about Hillary. (Trump is actually the same way.)
Maybe Hillary is just running bad with catching colds or whatever, and isn't actually that sick. After all, I just had to cancel my 200th radio show last week, and I'm not on death's door.
But you'd think Hillary would just cancel a campaign appearance (especially given these persistent health rumors) if she had a temporary illness like a cold, rather than look and sound like death on stage and give the right the evidence they're looking for.
I think Hillary has some long-running health issues, and she wasn't necessarily expecting to have the coughing fit occur during that campaign rally.
I don't find it far-fetched at all to believe at this point that we will have President Kaine before the end of 2020.
I'm surprised the country hasn't learned from what happened with Reagan and the Alzheimer's. I loved Reagan, but there's no denying that something was wrong with him in the final 2 years of office. It's not his fault, but that's the risk you take when you elect an old person to such an important position.
In general it's not a good decision to elect a 70-year-old as President, especially given the high stress of the job. Look how much of a toll it takes on the appearance of younger Presidents, such as Obama.
