Let’s be honest anyone in military is the last person who should be running the country. I can only speak for myself but everyone I knew who voluntarily joined the military growing up were fuck ups or assholes. There's a long list of veterans who have been president. US Grant is mostly known to have done a poor job as president. George HW Bush tried and failed. George W Bush only joined the guard to avoid the draft and is a fraud, not a veteran. There was also Washington, Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt, Lincoln, Truman, Eisenhower, and Kennedy to name a few who accomplished many good things as president. Did you think by disparaging veterans and saying 'no offense' that it was somehow less offensive?Quote:

Except to say the 9/11 kids were very moved and responded to Cheney and Bush. Their patriotism was admirable and I respect that quality - although it was misplaced.
I have to give them that. I do not stereotype those that served. I do however detest how we as a country treat them. It’s all lip service and bullshit.

I can only comment on my era. I have immense respect for those who fought in ww2. And todays military very different than 100 years ago, not really comparable. I should also say I do obviously know decent people in the military. But even so when you look at the personality characteristics and accompanying lifestyle these are not people who should be leading the country except in the course of wartime.
So you knew a few people in the 90's who joined the service you didn't like. Ok, but the country has mostly been in a state of war since 1990 so those people volunteered to serve during extremely dangerous times and spent in some cases years away from their families.
