We are absolutely the followers not the leaders here. I am dumbfounded by Germany’s swift reaction, for example, which was made at great cost to themselves. My cynicism makes it hard to understand or accept but I am full of admiration.

My Ukraine forecast was wrong. A key part was the German Russian relationship. I did not know Putin was unhinged. He’s an idiot and idiots are dangerous.

yes, our founders were statesmen who took great pains and risk to travel to govern for a few weeks/months a year, then return home to their businesses/lives. What we have now is American Idol, just the political version, with idiot voters at home calling it in for whomever offers them the most.
