I find 2+2 and Pocketfives to be a crashing bore. 99.9% is crap, misinformation or regurgitation of shit covered 10 years ago. Astounds when I see certain PFA members that I am otherwise impressed with cite 2+2. Sometimes I am grateful that they find and post the rare gem. But at the same time, I wonder how small their life is to be trolling that site.

I am just a fairly typical grinder on some third world US facing site. Play almost ever day for 45 minutes or much more. So I'm interested in the game. I am your target audience & consumer. I am always testing poker podcasts and sites for something fresh but it all has been done and said before - it's just all so fucking dull

3) At least a couple of his employees don't seem to think he was a very good room manager. Then again, that could be sour grapes from either not getting hours or the possibility that the room might close and they lose their jobs, if this Cantor/Palms deal to run it continues to bleed money.

Mason has a history of trying to control other sites through 2+2.
One of the more infamous ones indirectly involved me.
Mason hated me so much in 2008 that he actually banned a respected ESPN writer (Gary Wise) for including me in an article. Not kidding. He told Gary that he wasn't allowed on 2+2 because he interviewed me for an ESPN article. 2+2 was more relevant in those days, and had a lot more posters, many of whom were very respected in poker. There was such outrage over this that Mason quietly reversed the decision and let Gary back on.
Regarding the situation where Mason deleted threads related to strategy, yes that really happened. The author in question was Ed Miller, and Mason was furious that Ed ran a personal free website (separate from 2+2) that gave some strategy tips which were also in the 2+2-published book by Miller.
In addition to banning and making legal threats to Miller, Mason went crazy and demanded that the mods delete any strategy threads that could serve to detract from sales of 2+2 books. Basically he was telling them not to allow any good strategy threads because then 2+2 couldn't sell strategy books.
While it's Mason's right to do what he wants with his own business, these actions were spitting in the face of his massive userbase -- the same userbase which made him so much money over the years (from book sales and website ads). If you don't want to run a forum where strategy is discussed, that's fine. However, it's unethical to build a huge poker-related forum, profit from the voluntary and unpaid content provided by users, and then quietly remove the good user-posted content in order to sell more books. Mason wanted it both ways. He wanted to have a highly profitable and influential poker forum, but also wanted to sell books about strategy. So users were coming to 2+2 thinking they were reading good strategy forums, when in reality Mason was quietly instructing the mods to remove anything good from those sections.
It would be equivalent to ESPN starting a big sports forum, and then deleting threads there just because they were better than some of the articles from ESPN authors.

He can call the forum small and inconsequential, and it is small and inconsequential compared to 2+2, but I still don't think he likes the competition. He clearly came over and took a look from his comments, saw a couple hundred lurkers reading, and didn't like it. They simply don't have the hits they used to over there, and you having half the lurkers of his most active forum probably doesn't sit well. Ultimately he's always about the buck, and I don't think he likes the fact that you become the lightning rod in a lot of the threads and drive traffic here even if you're getting pounded on in the thread by a lot of the posters. Whether people are agreeing with you or fucking with you, you've always been kind of polarizing, and that draws views.
I've always thought you and Mason are a lot alike. Not saying you're exactly alike, but you're both conservatives, and the same type of pragmatic conservatives rather than religious conservatives. You both are kind of attracted to the value spots in gambling rather than degens. You have similar backgrounds and interest in +ev blackjack, the best promotions in Vegas, etc. You both like control over your site, albeit for slightly different reasons.
You guys seem like the type who would get along in the real world, but I think he kind of views you as a small threat if things ever go sideways over there. With them removing strategy content for the most part, most of the traffic is simply social like this site. If they ever did anything to alienate their membership in some big way, they could have all the same conversations over here without any of the censorship. I don't think he worries about this at the moment, because that isn't worth much right now, but he's been involved with politics and trying to get poker legalized, and if it happens down the line, he doesn't want anyone encroaching on his monopoly even slightly.
