''Former Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara is the sole focus of documentarian Errol Morris' The Fog of War, a film that not only analyzes McNamara's controversial decisions during the first half of the Vietnam War, but also his childhood upbringing, his education at Berkeley and Harvard, his involvement in World War II, and his later years as president of the World Bank.''

''It's difficult to imagine anyone from George W. Bush's administration coming forth with such awe-inspiring, agenda-free candor, contrition, insight and misgivings about America's foreign policy. A documentary about morals, respect and blind luck.''
A lot of what's in this movie is kind of moonlandish for people who follow some of this stuff, but was pretty decent doc on the war on drugs:

''Boogie Man documents the life of political strategist Lee Atwater, whose take-no-prisoners style of campaigning helped win George Herbert Walker Bush the presidency. The lessons from that campaign, learned by others such as Karl Rove, informed the tactics that led to Bush's son also occupying the Oval Office''

However, the Olympic spirit of brotherhood and peaceful competition was shattered when eight Palestinian terrorists invaded the athletes' quarters to take the Israeli team hostage, resulting in the violent deaths of eleven athletes.''

Killers In Eden
http://youtu.be/04B02AAX7jA
http://www.killersofeden.com/
NATURE’s Killers in Eden examines a remarkable and mysterious partnership between killer whales and whalers.
On the southeast coast of Australia, the town of Eden nestles along the shores of Twofold Bay. It was once a center of Australia’s thriving whaling industry, in part because it lies along the migration path of baleen whales swimming northward from the Antarctic. But residents say Eden’s whalers got some unusual help — from orcas, or killer whales, that patrolled offshore.
Locals such as Elsie Severs and Alice Otten who witnessed the hunts say the orcas took the lead in the hunt, herding larger migrating whales into the bay. Once the whales were confined in the bay, the orcas would then attack their quarry to the point of exhaustion. Human whalers moved in for the final kill — then shared the spoils with the orcas.
Some seriously good and sometimes fucked up viewing itt.

Orson Welles was only 23 when he pulled of the War of the worlds.
Amazing how the country fell for this in under 30 minutes.
I just discovered this oldie a week ago. If you have not seen it, well worth viewing.

I watched this the other night and enjoyed it. Selling drugs is certainly not something I'd ever risk my freedom with but this stuff fascinates me.

self :moonlanding. just saw that 4D already posted about it
Just finished watching the Watterson doc. They estimated that his merchandising rights for Calvin and Hobbes are worth around $400 million and he still won't allow products other than the compilation. I respect him even more now.
I always like the national geographic documentaries. Entertaining and informative at the same time ;)
Couple of good ones,
"Who the #$&% Is Jackson Pollock?"(2006)
and "Grizzly Man",2005.
Cant go wrong with either..
I watched Somm the other day and didn't expect to like it as much as I did. You'd think a documentary about wine tasters would be boring but it's more of a documentary about 4 guys preparing to take an insanely difficult Master Sommelier exam. It's amazing the amount of bullshit that these guys can spout about wine ("I'm getting some freshly opened can of tennis balls" ...."The tannins on that red ripped my face off"). Yet it's impressive when they're able to nail the exact varietal, geographic region, and even year (of course, they're often wrong too).

They just added Forgotten Planet to Netflix. I love shows like this and Life After People.

With the Tour de France going on right now I've noticed that a few Lance Armstrong docs have been airing. A couple nights ago I watched "Stop At Nothing: The Lance Armstrong Story".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16ofoGHNTXs
We all know the gist of the story but it's fascinating to watch all the gory details unfold in a single narrative. Excellent watch.
I haven't seen "The Armstrong Lie" yet but I understand it's quite different than "Stop at Nothing."
After watching, check out this Esquire article. http://www.esquire.com/features/lanc...interview-0814

Here's a good one I watched last night. The only thing that I don't like is when they call themselves "mixologists". Motherfucker you are a bartender, I was a bartender and there is nothing wrong with that term. Just because you squeeze fresh juice during your bar prep doesn't make you something special.

"This is the story of Jesse Snodgrass, a kid with Aspergers Syndrome who was entrapped by an undercover cop posing as a student at Jesse's high school. This is the story of how the war on drugs preys on the most vulnerable."
Great job catching those horrible drug dealers. Suck my dick, Riverside PD.
