Wife & I both recently had Covid (tested positive) and have been having ear problems for over a week. Feels like ear needs to pop but nothing works that would normally work.
Pressure comes and goes.
Actually had this as well I endured the nastiest flu of my life (non-COVAIDS per home test) over Thanksgiving.
Still not quite 100%. Gets alleviated from exercise.
Late 2022 the season of fucked up ear pressure
Who saw that coming
I improved somewhat today, so that makes it less likely to be COVID.
Took a PCR anyway. Will get results tomorrow or Saturday.
What's the status of this? I get this semi regularly and need either ear drops and the clean out with the hot water. Also, it doesn't go away without like 2 weeks worth of Doxycycline.
The level of ignorance is apparently endless. Anything you apply to your external ear matters not if you have a middle ear occlusion.
Blame covid, bad knees, homosexuality etc. the fact remains you have congestion affecting the middle ear.
Do not fear, a specialist will diagnose this within ten minutes. They will not send you away without confirming as much. That would be malpractice. Read a book on anatomy. Grade 6
Appears to have been viral, and the wax in the left ear was a coincidence or maybe a worsening factor.
Eventually the problem moved to both ears, and I started having some congestion symptoms. For that reason, I cancelled my second ENT appointment. Presently I still have some ear pressure, but it's less, and it's on both sides so it's less bothersome for that reason.
I would suggest you try having someone drip hydrogen peroxide in each ear, and see if that helps. You can google it. This is harmless as long as you don't overdo it.
Call it viral, call it Covid, call it Democrat, none of that matters. The discomfort you experience is the difference in pressure between the outer and middle ear.
Nine times out of ten this means the middle ear is not privy to the oxygen it loves and requires because you are phlemed up.
Have a party in your outer ear, it won't matter.
No ear nose and throat (ENT) specialist dismisses a patient without a simple middle ear function test.
No specialist, drops protocol and encourages a patient continue a non sensical approach to their ailment.
I'll give it a shot. Currently have neomycin-polymyxin-Hc ear solution
TMJ
Limitles makes a lot of sense. I can't see how the wax buildup would have ever caused these pressure sensations. That's inner ear stuff. Whoever did the irrigation blew you off and didn't know what they were doing. Sad medical care that bad in this country. The outer ear cleaning discussion might be useful but not for your issue.
The guy who said go up to a mountain. That might relieve it and give you diagnostic info but it might reoccur? I'd guess that the pressure is higher in the inner ear which is opposite of landing in an airplane. Holding your nose and pushing air out might actually have made it worse.
Also I've heard sudafed and decongestants might help. Not sure if that has ever been clearly demonstrated but I had a doctor once suggest it to me. Basically it keeps your body from creating more excretions which likely contributes to your inner problem? (although could be swelling)
I'm not a doctor obvious just giving my 2 cents. Seriously I made most of this up.
I read on a ton of websites before going that wax buildup is one of the main causes of this type of pressure, so the guy wasn't unreasonable to believe that was it, especially due to what appears to be the coincidence of that ear having a ton of wax.
I did get Sudafed PE. I went late at night and the pharmacy was closed, so I couldn't get the good stuff behind the counter (original Sudafed). I took it. Not sure if it helped, or if I just naturally improved. Once it lessened somewhat and moved evenly to both ears, it was far more tolerable. It was the one ear thing which was very frustrating.
A blocked external ear canal is noticed for reduced hearing only.
The very uncomfortable pressure imbalance one may experience is what divers deal with routinely. If you cannot equalize the external to internal pressures you will face immediate discomfort.
A sock in your ear won't make a difference.
That is why a specialist would never suggest you should continue with irrigation when he/she has
already done so
Give the guy or gal credit they did achieve the status of surgeon.
I attempted to get in line to get the Sudafed at a CVS pharmacy a few days ago, but there were like 6 people ahead of me, and each one seemed to be taking forever. I gave up.
I don't feel sick anymore so there's no point.
I agree Sudafed PE sucks. All the good things are hard to get these days.
Was listening to a regular contributor on VSIN this morning and he said he had the ear infection too. He was a mess.
Really interesting
While there seems to be a strange prevalence of ear problems among PFA members in late 2022, I can at least say that mine was not an infection.
Not only didn't it present like an infection, but the doctor did not see any signs of one when looking in both ears.
My streak of no ear infections in the past 38.5 years remains intact. I was just about exactly Benjamin's age now when I had my last ear infection.
Factoid #1
Someone claims ear pressure.
Someone consults an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist is dismissed after an external ear canal flushing.
Factoid #2
Ear pressure persists
How is this possible when
specialist has cleared ear canal
and confirmed no infection?
How is this possible when ear pressure is a function/mal of the middle ear
What specialist ignores the most probable cause of suffering which is fluid build up in the middle ear.
This very common experience begins with a fluid to the middle ear. Infection is the result of untreated middle ear obstruction
My 78 year old mom had covid and was actually admitted to the hospital for one night due to her age/pacemaker/fever/ect, while recovering at home she had a plugged right ear and no hearing in that ear. Waited until she tested negative then went to ENT doc, given antibiotic for ear infection. Infection cleared but she never regained her hearing in that ear. Been deaf in right ear the last 4 months. Not sure if it was covid or ear infection but either way hearing is gone.
Take care of your ears.
There is literally no chance a specialist has examined and cleared the external ear of a patient without immediately performing Tympanometry.
Fluid build up in the middle ear is the most common ailment treated by an ENT and is detected within minutes by a tympanogram.
Untreated, a middle occlusion (middle ear fluid) will take your hearing and potentially your life.
YOU WILL NEVER LEAVE A SPECIALISTS OFFICE UNDER THESE CONDITIONS WITHOUT A MIDDLE EAR FUNCTION TEST
(a tympanogram)

You are literally spreading falsehoods.
Be aware of that. What you say is not opinion.
There is no debate. You potentially may cause harm with your ignorant claims.
Who knew that limitles was such a fanatical ear advocate?
With all the postings and discussions of your on-going maladies, it is readily apparent you're just a few years away from moving to South Florida to spend your golden years.
