So DeSantis would have absolutely no problem taking the W for his personal brand, and then quietly make peace with Disney and not following through. But painting this as an "L" for him as Mumbles was doing is a very uninformed, partisan take IMO.
I agree it would probably be a big hassle to do, and of course Disney would put their best lawyers on the case to challenge it, and it could drag out forever.
I can't see how it would hurt Florida financially. It's not like Disney is just going to abandon their theme parks and leave.
I agree it was probably more a stunt/threat than anything else. Desantis was legitimately mad at them, though, and for good reason. I usually am not in favor of government officials taking punitive action against organizations/people which oppose them politically, but in this case I actually did support it, even if it's just an empty threat.
Disney has a very special, beneficial arrangement with the Florida state government, and they've had it for 55 years.
They should appreciate that arrangement and not take (unfair) potshots at administrations they don't like. Basically they should see it that the state government has stayed out of their way for 55 years, and in return, they should stay out of the state government's way.
What Disney did was akin to you letting a friend stay rent-free in a second home you own, and many years into it, he shows up on social media and falsely accuses you of being a homophonic asshole. Your first inclination would be to start charging him rent, and you'd be right to do it.
