They're at least semi-scams. They get clicks by promising unrealistic returns to class members, such as 4 figures for the Caesars breach. Give me a fucking break.

I also don't see why they need to collect any info via these Facebook ads, as lawyers can subpoena the necessary info regarding who is in the class, without needing signups, in most cases. That's why you find yourself getting postcards for class action suits you didn't know existed, where indeed you were a member of the class from some previous business you did with the company.

Going back to the Caesars example, they don't need you to indicate that you were a member of Caesars Rewards. They should be able to get this info -- along with whose info was breached -- as part of the legal process.

I'm not sure what the exact angle here is, but I don't trust any of it. And there's now a ton of it on Facebook, all with dubious "class action" suits promising big returns, which I doubt will see the light of day.

This one is targeted but might affect some here since it’s a casino. Crystal Bay Casino, a smaller casino in North Lake Tahoe NV had a data breach and a settlement has been approved. Cash option with no issues is a projected $25-$50, or you can claim time spent on it for up to $500. Or for extraordinary losses up to $10,000. And the standard 3 years of credit monitoring.

Information came on a postcard with a needed Class ID number. Took less than 2 minutes for fill out if you get it.

Cash App has a massive settlement they've agreed upon, due to both improper protection of user data AND inability to prevent/react to unauthorized transactions.

I was a victim of this myself, as several "Todd Witteles" accounts were made in my name for the purposes of scamming, and they were not very helpful regarding getting them removed. I finally got them all killed, but it was an ordeal.

You will get the most money if you file a claim for expenses occurred due to their negligence, or lost time. I am filing the latter, as I spent hours on the phone with them trying to get those fucking fake accounts removed, even though it was super obvious they were fraudulent.

One other important thing: It appears they may not give people money if they didn't either suffer real financial losses or lost time. So it probably doesn't benefit you to go make an account before August 20.

As I mentioned, I filed for lost time because of my (legitimate) claim that they wasted hours of my time failing to deal properly with fake accounts in my name.

I always thought these were a scam, some are but each state does have an unclaimed property search.

I found relatives with property but my state doesn't give any clue to the amount.

I meant to respond to it but just realized yesterday that I never did, and now it's too late.

I actually have a letter from Cash App at the time one of many impersonations occurred, semi-acknowledging they fucked up. If you remember, I called and emailed multiple times and was not getting resolution regarding two phony accounts in my name there. I also later discovered 3 other phony accounts there, also in my name.

Anyway nothing I can do now. Hopefully the settlement would've been low anyway.

Regarding the Apple Siri lawsuit:

I figured out how they came up with claimants.

If you have an iTunes account, you got an email with a claim number. You can proceed to make a claim for up to 5 devices. You do not have to provide proof of the devices, nor even state which ones they are. For me, it's a no brainer because I actually did buy 5 devices in that timeframe.

If you did not get the email with a claim number, check which email you registered your iTunes, and it's probably there.
