I believe the content is the same but hbo now is a stand alone subscription. Btw I have no recollection of posting in this thread last night. Wow. Bottom set type night.
He's talking about swapping passwords for HBO go which is pretty rampant. HBO go still requires a cable subscription but if you get somebody's password, you can access the account. HBO doesn't do anything about it as far as I know. Same for the other streaming services for showtime, starz, etc.
HBO now will be available for roku PS3/4 etc soon. Apple tv has the exclusive for like a week for got premiere.
I think there is something more to it, like the delivery protocol or something, because people are acting like Comcast literally cant block HBO Now because its 100% internet based, while they were able to stomp the shit out of HBO Go subscriptions on PS4.
Honestly Im surprised its taking this long to get to the bottom of what the hell the difference is here.
You authenticate by logging in to your cable account. If you have a Cox user/pass and a Comcast connection, you can use HBO Go. If you try it with a Cox connection and Comcast credentials, you'll get shut out.
It's not Comcast blocking you from streaming, it's the HBO app denying you access because I guess they have a deal in place.
You're right. You can buy HBOnow direct from HBO. You can't buy HBOgo direct, you need cable subscription + HBO...
Comcast doesn't block everywhere. I watch on apple TV with Comcast credentials.
And, sharing passwords with 20 friends must violate TOS and therefore illegal but is def widespread. Even a NYTimes reporter wrote about sharing passwords to watch GOT not realizing it was prob illegal and punishable by year in jail...

They could offer both products and have a clever name like H-BOGO, because then you Buy One, Get One free.
