The reason I'm bringing this up is because you always seem to escalate matters when you aren't treated well by cops/government employees/etc. Why do you do this? Do you not realize that it's more trouble than it's worth?

Some businesses I visit/use all the time and never complain once.

But like here is something where I would have made a big deal if I wasn't scared of getting arrested:

I paid $59 per person extra to get "Economy Plus" on an airline (I forget which one), and found that my seat didn't recline. They didn't bother to tell me this when I bought it -- that I was trading better legroom for no recline in that particular row. All of the other Economy Plus seats did recline -- just not the row I bought.

I tried to explain that no reclining actually negates the comfort you gain from the extra leg room, and that I should have been informed of this when I bought it (I got it at the gate, not online). The stewardess was very nasty with me, repeating, "Sir, you paid $59 for extra leg room. You got your leg room. End of discussion."

I wasn't bitching just to bitch. There were empty seats in another row (one that reclined) which were also economy plus, but she refused to let me move, saying that I had to stay in my assigned seats.

Pre-9/11 I would have dug my heels in about this and had a big argument (especially because it was for a long flight), but in this case I quickly ended the argument and slinked back into my seat.

Shockingly the stewardess came back 10 minutes later and told me I could move to the other row, after flatly telling me "no" before. But if she hadn't, I would have just dealt with it and bitched on the ground.

Not intending to make this "about me", but I had my own nightmare with the consulate in Honduras a couple of years back when my mother died on a cruise. What made it even worse is that the autopsy had to be performed in that country before her remains could be brought back to the U.S.
That 1 in a million time that I ever would have to utilize services like that from a foreign country in my lifetime turned out to be everything I ever thought it could be. A total emotional and logistical nightmare.
That and the fact that it costed over $6,000 to have her shipped back to my area

In order to get a fresh visa while living in Nepal, I had to bribe countless immigration officials, in their offices, to obtain all of the requisite stamps, signatures etc.

Each 'step' cost me NRS. 1000, about $10. I bristled at the first one, having already paid the necessary fees. The guy looks at me and holds up my application, threatening to rip it in half.

After being shuttled through various offices and coughing up 7000 to get everything I needed, the fucking greedy office assistant takes me behind a bookshelf in some desolate library area (LOL) and demanded 2000 'if I wanted it done that week'.

Whatever, I needed the visa. Sometimes you just have to eat shit.

Before the days you needed a passport I was crossing back to the US from Baja, and the driver of the car was a black guy who was a little sensitive to what he perceived as racism. Anyways, at the border crossing the dude at the window (generic white dude) asked what we were doing in Mexico, pretty standard to me, but the driver took it the wrong way and gave him a little lip. The border guard made us park our car and wait in it in some detainment area ostensibly for further questioning.

Anyways, we sat there for like 4 hours and noone came. I finally went into the main office and asked the guy at the front desk what was going on. The guy didn't have a clue who we were and why we were supposedly being detained and said we could go.

Seems like the gate guy was just fucking with us and didn't even report us or put us on any list for further interrogation.

That experience definitely taught me an important life lesson about fucking with people doing menial jobs with power to make your life hell (ie airport security, border agents, cops) on a whim.

My girlfriend is Nepali and I moved there with her after college; planned on 6 months, turned into 1.5 years. Loved it.

I have Rana friends; they are the highest caste and act like royalty (which they used to be), which I found impressive and repulsive at the same time. One friend lived in a palace-like home with 40+ servants at any given time. The wealth of her family was stunning, especially for Nepal.

This girl had two drivers; one for in-town and one for longer trips.

They get treated like royalty by others as well.
