Meh. I had just saw on Twitter he had extended and fans were acting like he was finishing his career there. That’s more a safety bet for him as he probably didn’t get the bag he was hoping for off injury.

Soto to Mets, 15/$765. $75 signing bonus. None deferred. Blows the Ohtani AAV away. Crazy. Apparently turned into a 3-way bidding between both NY teams and the Red Sox.
I'm glad he's back in the NL. Anything weakening the Yankees is fine by me.
No opinion on these type of deals for hitters anymore. Cost of business now. Just assume the last 5 years are a sunk cost.
15 years is insane given his age of 26.
Yeah, last 5 years definitely sunk cost.
There are concerns about Soto’s ego, defense, and his consistency.
I’d much rather have Ohtani.
Mets lineup still nothing special, and Alonso probably going elsewhere.
Dodgers sign Conforto: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...7-million-deal
The $17m isn't cheap (Teoscar Hernandez signed last year for $23.5m, and some of it was deferred many years, to where the actual value was about $20m), but the Dodgers print money, so that's not a huge issue. They did need OF help.
Conforto has a weird history. He sat out the entire 2022 season due to first dragging his feet signing anywhere (thanks, Boras), and then injuring himself in a workout. So he had no team in 2022. He had an OPS of .740 in 2023-24 with the Giants.
But it seems like the Dodgers are going the route of signing 1-year contracts with veteran outfielders.
I really want to see them get another starting middle infielder so they can finally put to rest this stupidity with Betts playing SS/2B.
The Red Sox offered $700 million to Soto but couldn't give Betts $300, instead trading him for nothing? Sounds about right.
Dodger winter meeting lies. This is an annual thing. C’mon. How many years have you been following Dodgers news closely?
Declaring that bum Lux a cornerstone of the Dodger franchise and Mookie the shortstop is a bluff. Lux will be dealt and Mookie will be at 2nd. Dodgers will be crying crocodile tears during the Lux trade.
But then again they are the dumb LA rich kids. Farhan Zaidi distancing that dope Fraudman from the personnel is a step in the right direction but Zaidi is kinda fail too. The Dodgers can’t fire Fraudman as you know.
I almost want to get emotionally involved again but I’m kinda over the Dodgers. Shame to squander my superior knowledge of this team though.
It’s about wear and tear. Remember the discussion about how many extra steps Mookie had to take from the dugout to assume his position in right field during the course of the game? It was actually a discussion point. This was part of the calculus in moving Mookie to 2nd. Then the shortstop problem cropped up.
Mookie will work hard to improve at short in the off season and between games. Exactly the extra wear and tear they are trying to reduce.
Outfielders can be had rather easily as you point out.
Edman was a fun kid but he is unproven as an everyday shortstop. He will likely be your new Kike if anything.
This shortstop issue has been going on for years and the genius can’t or won’t (the Lux mistake - Andrew loved him as a SS) solve it. Why not say Muncy is your shortstop instead of Mookie? It’s equally believable.
Regarding pitchers: Friedman said he was going to address the pitching issue. I don’t believe him but he did say it. Mark Prior is going nowhere, as an example. It’s not the personnel choices - it’s the organizational approach to pitching. Again, it’s not gonna really change.
What we want to see from an entertainment standpoint is an all Asian starting rotation.
Homegrown talent like Ohtani, Yamamoto and Sasaki. Throw in Glasnow and one of the damaged kids and let the orientals work on 6 days
That’s a threesome that would turn the world on its ear. I’d be back for that. How would the Dodgers fuck that up?
Just like a man whose wife leaves him for the milkman, the Yankees turn around from Soto and find the sleaziest girl in the bar and put a ring on them.
8/218 for a 30-year old Fried. I'm sure that will age well.
Tribe so cheap they traded Gimenez for an actual Jew.
So the Rule 5 draft is happening now. The tl:dr explanation is that its a way for shit teams to poach a guy from a stronger teams system, who is not on the 40 man roster, for cheap. Guy has to stay on your ML 25-man or IL all year.
Draft is arranged in opposite order from last years standings. You dont have to pick anyone.
As you expect, usually the shitty teams will take a flyer on someone, usually a pitcher as they are easier to stash. At least, the shitty teams with functional ownership/front offices that pay attention. Thus:
Basically just another LOL ROCKIES post.
In 2022 they sold their pick to Tampa, who took Kevin Kelly, a solid member of their bullpen last 2 years. Rockies actually picked for themselves last year, and got a kid who pitched to a 6.41 ERA out of the pen.
I think the Rockies are going to suck forever.
They legit just need to give up on pitching. Accept the fact that the altitude fucks with the head of any pitcher, to where every game is a struggle -- either he's on the road, or he's at home where the ball travels easily.
Try to go all-in on offense -- at least the type of offense which will thrive most in their park. Then pray the pitching isn't horrible.
Mind boggling that they passed on the Rule V draft with a #2 seed.
Yankees have made some moves.
They've acquired Cody Bellinger from the Cubs. Maybe hoping he can fuck the Dodgers in a World Series rematch? Bellinger is such a mixed bag. I always wonder where his career would have gone if he hadn't fucked up his shoulder with a shoulder bump celebration.
They've also picked up Devin Williams from the Brewers. He'll be the closer.
Max Fried was signed as a free agent, as mentioned already by gut. The 8 year/$218m contract is going to be ugly. Fried will be 31 before the season starts, and already has injury issues.
Yankees fans on Twitter are mostly positive on this, but some are skeptical.
One potential issue is that their rotation is sort of old -- everyone except Gil will be 31+.
Also, the lineup just isn't that good. Volpe/Chisholm/Judge/Bellinger/Stanton make a strong top 5, but the 6-9 spots are shit.
On the other side, the Braves are going to have a thin rotation -- projected to be Chris Sale, Reynaldo Lopez, Spencer Schellenbach, Grant Holes, and Ian Anderson. Well, and Strider if he returns.
The Brewers will go back to Trevor Megill as closer, and hope that his 2024 wasn't a fluke.
While the Phillies sit back and do basically nothing with an older, overpriced roster as the Mets get better and the Braves look to bounce back healthier.
Trying to trade Bohm when it’s obvious they value him more than anyone else isn’t working. Realmuto is already old for a catcher, they only have one true everyday outfielder in Castellanos and Turner is a disappointment.
Honestly see them struggling to compete for a wild card spot in the National League.
53 days until pitchers and catchers!

Maybe we will see another wife swap between Yankees.
Paul Goldschmidt, whose best days are behind him, has signed with the Yankees, on a 1-year deal.
So... they dump washed up Anthony Rizzo, and grab a washed up Goldschmidt? Ookkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

They're not risking very much. It's only a $12.5m contract. He had a .716 OPS in 2024, with a .245 average and 22 HR. He has been remarkably healthy, playing 154+ games in 9 of his 12 full seasons, only falling short in 2012 (145), 2014 (109), and 2022 (151). He even played 58/60 in the COVID-shortened 2020.
He will turn 38 near the end of the 2025 season.
