Honestly, I never considered that. I found Hopper and Fonda annoying and pompous. So again, I didn’t invest a lot of thought.... and I consider myself a big antihero guy. At least as much as the next guy.
That tgull’s first observation was how much ROI it achieved. That really is how this film is remembered. I think Hopper was silently proud of this.
