tl;dr offering option contracts on trivially manipulated electronic currencies has predictable outcomes.
totally normal thing to happen with a legitimate form of currency. im sure they will get this misunderstanding sorted out in no time as soon as the people who run bitcoin get on the case.
the hits keep coming
For those who don't understand what happened here, this is why your Coinbase, Blockchain, or similar account isn't totally safe, despite e-mail confirmation and phone text verification:

I can't joke around with Kermit this time.
I made a fairly large cashout recently, and I didn't convert it to USD because it started rising right when I received it. I saw it get to 9k, and I was about to sell it, but then it got to 9100 easily without any resistance. I pictured that it might rise to the mid-9000s or even high-9000s. I was going to sell either once it stabilized or once it got in the high 9000s.
Instead, it hung in the 9100s, then slipped some yesterday, stabilized in the 8600-8700 range, and then today fell to 8k.
So now I'm down a good deal on it.
I've actually handled these bitcoin cashouts pretty well lately (selling at the right time before a crash), but I screwed up this one, and now it's worth less than 90% it was when I first considered selling.
stick it on spy puts tomorrow and you're green again in an hour.
Maybe I'm naive but I have always believed crypto currency values
have been directly tied to illicit activities. Those kinds of exchanges
will not change much due to a virus. They may even increase
So, global pandemic. NYC state of emergency and on the verge of shutdown.
Small chance of economic seizure.
Wasn’t this the moment Bitcoin was built for? Nope, gold is making a strong comeback.
But by all means keep burning those fossil fuels to keep the meter running.
Amazingly, this crash is likely because a Ponzi scheme has been unloading its ill-gotten BTC over the past 36 hours, and the market is so flooded with sell orders that it's depressing everything.

On the bright side, I'm almost ready for another cashout because I've been pwning heads on Ignition lately.
yeah the big concern for as long as i can remember is essentially a run on the banks created by one big whale account dumping their holdings.
its the achilles heel of the entire crypto model and honestly its totally possible we will be trading at hundreds instead of thousands per bitcoin this year.
in fact... in about 4 hours im going to short some bitcoin indexes, methinks.
The sky is falling, What seemed to be a soft floor at 8k, Has now collapsed, sitting at 7700, Maybe a bottom at 6k, The few people I know with a little coin sold this morning between 7900 -8000 in fear bitcoin will fall to around 7k fairy quickly
crypto bloodbath is just beginning imo
Welp.
I made a pretty big mistake not unloading my bitcoin.
6250.
:kermit
this Thread was huge entertainment
Insufferable stupid shit like HODL though
Just dead cat bounced from 5800 to 62xx, now back to 5800.
:bloodbath
The whole premise was proven bogus
gold is down 2.5%
btc is down 25%
i tried to warn you all but you wouldnt listen to reason.
If you didn't sell earlier on then hold otherwise look for a buying entry if you need some we've all been down this road before seeing what happens.
It's probably a better investment than many stocks but not yet let it dip some more.
Just my opinion here and it likely gets worse before it gets better.
