Take a town that 20 years ago was 80% white, 20% black. Who has it tough in the town? The blacks and the poorer whites do. Now ship good paying jobs overseas. Then bring in the cheap labor. There is ample precedent for this. In the 19th century, Congress impeached both a member of the cabinet and a federal judge after they had resigned.
During the time of the Founders, the English parliament occasionally impeached former officials. The Founders were well aware of this. Your favorite Supreme Court Justices, who try to rule based on what (they believe) the Founders thought, are aware of this.
If Trump is convicted, he could always challenge it in the Supreme Court. I predict they would not even accept the case.
